In September of last year, President Obama stood with Vice President Biden in launching the “It's On Us” campaign, an effort to raise awareness and help diminish sexual assault on college campuses.
According to Whitehouse.gov, the President said, "An estimated one in five women has been sexually assaulted during her college years -- one in five. Of those assaults, only 12 percent are reported, and of those reported assaults, only a fraction of the offenders are punished."
It's On Us requests all of us -- boy, girl, young, old -- truly stand up for this cause. It is time we value our own ability to minimize and eliminate sexual assault.
The SEC, Snapchat, VH1, Tumblr, and MTV are just a few of the major partners that have taken their own pledges to work to stop sexual assault.Fraternities Pi Kappa Alpha (often referred to as Pike) and Tau Kappa Epsilon have also signed on as partners for the It’s On Us Campaign. George Washington University created their own promotional video regarding the campaign and its importance.
Sexual assault is something we need to be talking about; it is an issue we need to change our attitudes about and act upon. It’s vital that we recognize sexual assault as a problem with an existing solution -- a solution we all need to be part of, speak for and live by.
Refuse to be a bystander and start speaking up for those who won’t.
