As you go through life, you’re going to experience so many different feelings: sadness, joy, passion, anger, euphoria, and so much more. Each one of those feelings will cause your body to do some crazy things. Just thing back to all those times you were so overcome with grief – you felt like your whole body was shutting down. Now, think of how your body was buzzing with pleasure when you were head over heels in love.
In an effort to stop the pain or get that sense of euphoria, people will turn to do crazy stunts like going bungee jumping or parasailing, which could potentially cause them to get hurt if something went wrong! Instead of putting your health at risk, why not try flirting?
The Effects of Flirting on the Body
When you meet someone and you begin flirting with them, it isn’t just a fun experience. Your body undergoes a variety of different reactions that can make you feel pleasure and happiness. For instance, when you are physically attracted to someone, your brain releases several chemicals that will heighten the feelings of being physically attracted to someone. The key stimulant that is responsible for those pleasurable feelings is dopamine. You may feel that same pleasure when you bite into your favorite food or just landed safely after parachuting.
Another part of the body that is affected when you flirt or are attracted to someone is, not surprisingly, the heart. Flirting with someone new is exciting and just being near them will cause your heart to beat a little faster. You may begin to feel like you have a case of the butterflies and your blood pressure may even rise. Of course, an adrenaline rush can cause the very same feelings!
Flirting: The Safer Way to Feel a Rush
Other than your heart and your brain, there are other parts of your body that are affected by flirting. Eyes are often considered to be windows to the soul, so it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that your eyes (more specifically your pupils) are going to react. When someone flirts, their eyes will dilate if they are truly into that other person. Not only will your vision slightly change (let’s face it, when you’re digging someone, you are going to see them a lot differently than if they were just some random person), but so will your sense of smell.
When you’re attracted to someone, your sense of smell is going to pick up on that person’s pheromones. These pheromones are responsible for arousal and sexual attraction. For many people, the way someone smells, be they a partner or someone they are simply flirting with, scent can be a make-or-break factor. It’s also important to note that not everyone is attracted to the same scents. When you’re doing these amazing, adrenaline inducing activities, some people may be attracted to your sweat while others... Not so much.
Wrap [it] Up
The feeling people get when they pursue an adrenaline rush can be addictive, there’s no denying that. You can have some incredible stories to tell as a result of these death-defying activities. But, they can also put you into harm’s way because accidents do happen. Flirting can be equally addictive, but it isn’t going to cause you to break a bone or worse. The only way flirting can pose a risk to you and others is if you get physical with someone and you do not practice safe sex, in which case we strongly encourage following the mantra, “No glove, no love!”
