Almost everybody and their dog has an iPhone these days. One thing that iPhone users will notice is that upgrades are a fairly frequent occurrence in this device. A lot of people consider this to be a hassle, but if you’re anything like me, you embrace change. With the Apple Software Beta Program, I was able to test out iOS 10 a little bit ahead of the official release date in September. Here are some of the cool changes iOS 10 has compared to iOS 9.
1. No more “Slide to Unlock”
Rather than sliding to the right in order to enter your passcode, you simply press “Home” to unlock your device. This is convenient if you have the fingerprint scanner that substitutes a passcode. Also, widgets are available on the unlock screen by swiping left and the camera launches by swiping right.
2. Photos App
Now, Photos can go through your pictures and detect certain people and places and group them together. This can help to organize your photos, but it doesn’t really seem too necessary in my opinion.
3. Music App
I was not too big of a fan of the iOS 9 Music app’s layout and I think iOS 10’s is a lot easier to use. The layout is pretty simple aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. The font is noticeably bigger, just in case your grandma wants to listen to some of your tunes.
4. System App Removal
This one is a big win for people who hate useless apps such as Stocks, Tips, and Compass. We can now have more storage in our devices and put an end to accidentally clicking on the Weather app when we hardly ever use it. If you delete any and decide that you actually want them, don’t worry. You simply go to the App Store and download them again- free of charge.
5. iMessage
iOS 10’s new iMessage update is by far the best thing about iOS 10. Not only is the layout different, but there are many new things we can now do that we couldn’t with iOS 9. For instance, you can now use emoji translation (substituting words for suggested emojis), write handwritten messages, and even find pictures/gifs online without leaving the iMessage app.
There are many more changes coming to iOS 10 that haven’t even been released in the Beta version that have yet to be announced. Technology is constantly changing, and Apple tries their best to appeal to their consumers by doing just that. Whether or not you are a fan of these new features that iOS 10 has to offer, at least you have an idea of what's in store when it's available.
