Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love college. I love living with my best friends, going out with my favorite people and all the interesting classes (sorry, I'm a nerd).
But the stress of the workload, the anxiety that comes with it and the continuous string of activities can begin to lessen the appeal of college's amazing aspects.
People with anxiety can probably relate the best, but I'm sure every person has or will feel this way at least once in his or her college career.
It becomes too much, and the stress begins to consume every moment. The experiences that are meant to be fun and relieve stress turn into stressors themselves.
At times like this it's necessary to step away from all the stress—literally. The workload won't dissipate, but gaining physical distance from the place where the stress occurred makes an incredible difference.
Go to a friend's house, your house, the beach or even a coffee shop for the day... anything. Somewhere relaxing. Somewhere with minimal distractions. Even for an hour or so. A walk or run outside (if the weather is cooperating) can do the trick as well.
The serenity of a new atmosphere does wonders for an unbearable amount of stress. Combine that with relaxing music,I highly recommend Norah Jones, John Mayer or the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack pandora stations, comforting food or beautiful weather and your mood and outlook on things will quickly change.
Never let yourself or someone else drown in stress, because the longer someone sits in a pool of stress, the further he or she will continue to sink into it.
Actively remedying stress is essential, both to the person who is stressed and to everyone around that person.
Find something that works for you and continue referring back to it when it feels as though there is no way out of the intense stress and anxiety, because I promise: It's possible to escape.
