Social Media And The World

Some feel as if social media is separating human beings, but that's not quite right.

Social Media And The World

Social media may be slowly bringing the world together. As a “Millennial,” I am extremely active on almost all platforms of social media (Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Tumblr, etc.). I’ve met tons of fans that share the same interests as myself. Some are my closest friends. It’s amazing what a strong connection one can have with another person from the other side of the country, or even the world! You get different perspectives from other cultures and races, and they also have a chance of learning about the way you may live. Maybe even learning a different way of life from others or a new language.

I learned this when talking to fans who have the same musical taste as me on social media. For example, I personally listened to music for personal pleasure, no matter what my mood is. I listen to music every hour of the day that I can. Some may say that they listen to music to get inspiration. Others say they only listen to music when they’re upset or on long car rides. I’ve even met people that said that music, or a specific artist, saved their lives. Isn’t that so interesting that an artist's lyrics in a song could have such an impact on a person? Some reading may not have even realized that there are people in the world that would even say this, but there are.

Some use social media to get ideas for their visual arts or to find out news. Others use it to make others laugh, and come to some kind of common ground with others. At home, I’m always losing something, and I’ll ask my mom to find it, and she’ll find it in less than five seconds. I thought there was something wrong with me personally. Was I OK? Why can’t I find what I’m looking for but my mom could in seconds. I was worried until I saw someone make a meme, or a Tumblr post about it. So many of the comments said things like “relatable,” or “I hate when that happens,” etc. It was such a sigh of relief for me, and it also could have been a sigh of relief for others!

A lot of the older generation believes that social media is separating and isolation us “Millennials” from the world and each other, but it’s really connecting us. To be able to talk to others from all over the country and the world. To be able to know that you’re not alone about something you’ve been worrying about for the past few years or the past few minutes. Some people make their best friends on the internet. Social media can sometimes be a very special thing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
