I think most of us can agree that social media plays a huge role in our lives, especially if you're a college student. We are at an age where knowing everything as quick as possible makes us happy and gives us peace of mind.
I am among those who try to stay up to date by using social media daily. I wake up every morning and do the same thing. I open Snapchat, check Instagram, and scroll on my Facebook timeline. While this feels comfortable and necessary, sometimes I feel like all of it leads into a black hole. I get so wrapped up in it that I do not realize how heavily reliant I am on these social media platforms that I could definitely live without. I feel like I waste so much time scrolling on my phone when I could be doing something more important or experiencing something first hand.
That being said, I don’t think that deleting or removing ourselves from social media is necessarily the answer. However, I think it is simply important to just remind ourselves that there are more important things going on around us. Being in college means experiencing things that we will remember for the rest of our lives.
It is such an important and exciting time, and it all becomes even more special when we fully take it in without documenting every little thing on social media. It is amazing that we have these platforms at our fingertips. We can use them for amazing things and express ourselves in so many ways, but I think there is a balance that we all need to remind ourselves to find every once and a while. As cliché as it sounds, living life in the moment and to the fullest really is so important, and the social media platforms we hold so close can quickly get in the way of that.
