Here are some helpful tips and tricks specifically for Furman freshmen. Good luck to you all and go Dins!

1. If you signed yourself up already for 8 A.Ms, oh honey, drink coffee.

If you don't drink coffee, learn to.

2. Do you want to become a music major?

Better like not having a life outside Daniel.

3. Eat the cookies.

They do an incredible job making them, so eat them.

4. Work out in the PAC.

They have a punching bag, which I have found helpful during finals.

5. Your food won't be as fantastic as it was when you toured.

You'll get used to it because food is food.

6. Go to events on campus.

Odds are, there's free food or shirts or even better, both.

7. Tailgate at least once, because even small schools can rally.

It's also nice to get to know people in the fraternities and sororities.

8. Get involved somewhere.

There are so many clubs at Furman ranging from athletic teams, to majors, to (not biased) the best club ever: Improvable Cause.

9. If you're from South Carolina, don't go home often.

Don't just stay friends with someone from your hometown because you both go to Furman. There are so many things you can learn from people that don't live in the same city or, even, state as you.

10. You will miss home, so FaceTime your dogs and friends.

Plus side, if you call home enough, you might get snacks sent to you.

11. Don't think just because a test, paper, or final is a week away that you don't need to get started studying or writing.

Because most of the time, you'll get three papers thrown at you, someone's birthday, and a football game. Be smart and plan ahead.

12. You CAN and should say "No" to things.

You have a big test on Monday, but Suzy wants you to go to a frat party? You're allowed to say no to her in order to study. There's always another party next weekend.

13. Don't just study in the library.

Trone Center, around the lake, and the amphitheater are all amazing places to go to for people watching and to just get out of the dreary library.

14. Final thoughts: have fun, study hard, make new friends, and most of all, be happy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
