A 16 Story Slope Into Music's Best
Air+Style Los Angeles 2017

With January coming to a close, festival season is starting to kick off, starting with the Air and Style festival in Los Angeles, California. The festival, scheduled for the weekend of February 18th, is an annual event with three main points of interest; music, sports, and culture. Following Innsbruck, Austria and Beijing, China, Los Angeles is the third stop of the tour. Originally, the Air and Style event was just for a group of competing snowboarders, including two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White. However now it has become an annual, three-stop tour and festival featuring the snowboarding competitions as well as music performances and cultural events. The music lineup for the Los Angeles Air and Style show consists of nineteen different artists and performers, ranging from hip-hop to electronic dance music. Touching upon every attendees musical desires, the lineup features big-name performers such as Flume, Vince Staples, Major Lazer, YG, and even Atmosphere. Though the festival is only around $150 for two day passes, it could be more money-conscious to only attend one day. Thankfully for us concert-lovers on a budget, the lineup has already been split into Saturday and Sunday schedules so to make the decision of which day to attend easier on us.

On Saturday, February 19th performers include Flume, Chromeo, Atmosphere, Vince Staples, Vic Mensa, St. Lucia, The Shelters, Phantoms, and RKCB. And on Sunday, February 20th performers include Major Lazer, Zhu, YG, TV on the Radio, Russ, Louis the Child, Marian Hill, Xylo, Powers, and 070 Shake. Unfortunately for my bank account, I am not able to choose between the two days. The balance of amazing performers and experimental sounds for each day is too even for a decision to be made. With Vince Staples and Vic Mensa fighting YG for the hip-hop title and Flume fighting Zhu and Louis the Child for the electronic title it is just too difficult to choose one day over the other. This lineup touches upon so many different sounds, even if only targeting a few genres, you are bound to find more than just one sound that sparks your interest with this well-balanced festival.

Whether you are looking to groove, chill, or get down Air and Style Los Angeles will have a place for you in the crowd. If offered the chance to attend this show, take it; this will be an event for the books.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
