As society grows, so do new trends -- specifically that of new phrases or words. For some reason, today's generations are obsessed with creating new words for things that are already easily identifiable. Urban Dictionary is becoming more popular than the Webster's Dictionary, and hashtags are slowly taking over the internet. The past few years have blessed us with some amazing new literary terms, like "bae" and "turnt," but unfortunately there are some slang words that just won't die out. Here's a list of slang words that should be put to rest for the sake of our well-being.
1. Thot.
Thot stands for "that hoe over there" and is honestly just a derogatory term overall. If you want to showcase your disrespect for women, go ahead and use this word.
2. Yaaaaaaas.
Basically, an over-enthusiastic yes. If you are that excited about saying yes, add a few exclamation points and call it a day.
3. On fleek.
When something is on fleek, it's perfect. This term is most often used to describe someone's eyebrows. While this is a common phrase, it's still annoying all the same.
4. #Sorrynotsorry.
I'm sorry that I'm not sorry? I'm sorry you aren't over this non-apology yet.
5. Cray.
Jay-Z and Kanye West, I blame you for this one. When a slang word becomes so popular even your parents begin to use it. That's when you know that it needs to be put to rest.
6. Green.
I always thought green was a color, but apparently it's a term that's used when someone does you wrong or does something you don't like. I don't understand this.
7. Thirsty.
You can't tell someone that you're thirsty anymore without getting a weird look. The word thirsty used to mean that you wanted something to drink, but now you can almost bet that when the word thirsty is used, someone's looking for a one-night stand.
8. Salty.
Used when someone is bitter about something. I thought salty was just a word to describe the chips I was eating. Apparently not.
9. Swag.
A shortened term originating from the word "swagger" and used when something is cool. Justin Bieber claims he has a lot of swag. That should be reason enough to not use this word. (Apologies to all of the Beliebers out there.)
10. Daddy.
Used by a girlfriend to describe her boyfriend. I cringed while typing this. Please eliminate this word from the dictionary, altogether.
It's weird to think about how far the English language has come since its origination, and it's especially weird to think about all of the terms that we've come up with along the way. Slang is always going to be used, especially if a word is catchy and likable. However, that doesn't mean that we should accept any word that comes our way. Slang words and phrases are widely accepted, but maybe not all should be.
