One of the latest controversies in the 2016 election cycle is the status of Hillary Clinton’s health. Hillary is rumored to have various ailments and even a concussion. Personally, I do not buy into the idea that Hillary’s health would prevent her from serving as president. I also think Hillary’s opponents attacking her health is a weak line of attack as few people will change their vote over this. I do, however, do not totally discount that Hillary could have health issues.
Even though this seems to be just a conspiracy theory, the mainstream media have lost their collective minds over this. They claim that sexism is the real root for attacking Hillary’s health status (as is their claim regarding most attacks on Hillary). The media says that questioning Hillary’s health is totally out of bounds.
But should it really be out of bounds? I seem to remember in 2008, one criticism of John McCain was his state of health. No one in the mainstream media was outraged over the rumors that McCain could not lift his arms above his head. McCain did not get a chance to go on late night TV to defend himself from these attacks. Hillary got to defend herself on Jimmy Kimmel by opening a (tampered with) jar of pickles. How do I know the jar was tampered with? Well, I have three younger sisters (all fit teenage girls), and the only reason they like having me around is so I can open jars of pickles for them.
All jokes aside, if it was not out of bounds to question McCain’s health, why is it out of bounds to question Hillary’s health? Could it be that the mainstream media may have a *gasp* bias? I’ll let you decide. What I will say is that I would have loved to be a late night host in 2008. I would have had John McCain on and we would have done the YMCA dance to prove to people he could lift his arms above his head.
Finally, I should note that Hillary has been questioning Donald Trump’s mental health for some time now. She has said or implied that Trump is essentially crazy, psychotic, a lunatic etc. Now if you do think Trump is crazy that’s fine. I myself wonder what goes on in that “very good brain” of his. The question remains, why is it OK to question Trump’s mental health, but it is not OK to question Hillary’s health? It seems like there might be a (here it is again) bias. Again, I’ll let you be the judge of that. My goal here is no to persuade anyone to vote Trump, I just want to present a perspective that has less attention.
