According to Gallup, which is a nationwide research institute, you hate you job. And you're not alone. According to a 2013 study, 70 percent of people were "disengaged" at their job.
That’s the nice way of saying they hated it. If you're wondering if you are part of that 70 percent, here are some ways to know.
1. You're Not Appreciated
Let's face it. You're not getting paid in compliments (hell, you're barely getting paid). It would be nice, however, if you were appreciated for the work you do and the times you go above and beyond. People at work may not appreciate the work you do but just know that it does make a difference—and hopefully it’ll make cashing that paycheck, however small, that much sweeter.
2. Your pay/hours were cut
It’s nice to have a job. If for no other reason, we work to have steady income. When our hours are cut or pay is slashed, we tend to not feel the love in the office. Just think though, your hours were cut, but someone (perhaps, you) could have been let go.
3. You're overworked
Fitting a thousand things for you to do during your eight-hour shift must be the intended goal of your boss or supervisor. Sometimes it is necessary things that are part or your job description. Then there are those tasks that seem outright unnecessary. Pro tip: never work for free/always take advantage of benefits afforded to you. If you’re offered a 15-minute break, take it. If you are given a lunch break, go out. You get paid the same regardless of whether you take your breaks or not.
4. Your boss is actually an idiot
Most of the time, the reason your boss is your boss is because they are more qualified that you at a specific field. Perhaps their job requires a higher level of education or more years on-the-job. This IN NO WAY, after personal experience, translates to being smarter than their employees. Oh, and when you’re the boss one day, remember this.
5. You hate your co-workers
Being stuck in jail—I mean at work is bad enough as It is. Great coworkers can really make or break a shift. Being stuck at work for an eight, 10, or 12-hour shift with coworkers you hate might just make you say you really and truly hate your job. Think about it though, your co-workers might feel the same way about the job that you do. Work is not fun. If it was it would be called “fun”.
6. You work in customer service
There’s really no explanation here. Rule of thumb: if you work in customer service, you hate it.
Yes, you might hate your job. But good news, it’s not permanent. Always be on the lookout for something that actually doesn’t suck. Until then, if you want to continue being paid, keep your mouth shut and smile.
