We forget to be grateful for these simple things

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we must take the time to remember what we are thankful for. This can be a difficult task in such a hateful world, but we should see beyond the negativity and realize what we are grateful for. That might be your family, your friends, your favorite restaurant, or probably, your dog. We, as millennials, have lots of things to complain about, but let’s talk about the good things in our lives, and what we should be thankful for.

1. Freedom.

We no longer live in a world where your race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation determines what you are allowed do. We don’t have to live in a time with segregated bathrooms or rules about who we can or can’t marry. Older generations did not get to live in a world where they had so many rights, and we need to cherish this. This is something to be extremely thankful for, people. (And yes, we have a long way to go in terms of equal rights, but let’s be grateful for what we do have.)

2. Technology.

Can you imagine living in a world where you had to write essays and do projects in school without a computer? Other generations had to hand-write their assignments and read books to find the research for them. That’s insane. We have amazing technology right at our fingertips, and we should be grateful for it.

3. Netflix.

Netflix is a godsend. For hours on end, we can binge-watch whatever TV shows or movies we want. Netflix is an amazing way to fix all your problems. Need something to do when procrastinating? Watch Netflix. Need to de-stress after a week of tests? Watch Netflix. Need something to do for twelve hours straight? Watch Netflix. Netflix is the answer to everything, and I think something that amazing deserves our thanks.

4. COFFEE.

If the capitalization doesn’t explain it enough, this one is very important. Can you imagine going through your day without coffee? How would you function? I would fall asleep in class every day. Sometimes, I’ll try to go a day without it and just drink water. It never works. Also, coffee shops are essential to our lives. They have every kind of drink imaginable and even if it’s not on their menu, they will probably make it for you. God bless coffee and coffee shops.

5. Chipotle.

I think we can all agree that Chipotle is delicious. Although, some of you silly people think QDoba is better (it’s good, just not better, okay?). Anyway, Chipotle is amazing for a few reasons. 1. It’s delicious. 2. It’s a lot of food for a pretty low price. Bowls and burritos are only like $7 and they fill you up. 3. Chipotle brings people together. You can ask anyone, “Hey, you want to go to Chipotle?” and they will say yes. So of course, fellow millennials, we should be thankful for Chipotle.

6. Dogs.

The best part about being a millennial is that even if you don’t have a dog, most of your friends probably do. And nothing is better than unlimited access to petting a dog, right? As you’ve probably guessed, I am one of those people that squeals and freaks out when I see a dog. They’re just so damn cute, and FLUFFY. I love it. Dogs can make your day infinitely better, and they don’t even have to do anything. We definitely need to be thankful for dogs.

Some other things I personally am thankful for that did not make the list: curly fries, stand-up comedians, books, free wifi, Missouri State (go bears), ranch dressing, Johnny Depp, and the show Friends. Millennials, what are you thankful for?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
