If you think about it, when you wake up in the morning, you have the ability to say whatever in the world you want to say. That's the beauty of free speech. You have the power to inspire others with your words in just a breath. Quotes have always been an outlet for me. To this day, I will spend countless hours on Tumblr, We Heart It and Google, reading quotes that pertain to my feelings. Words inspire and empower me to make it through some crucial moments in my life. If I didn't have quotes to relate to, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
1. "Something will grow from all you are going through. And it will be you."
No I don't know who actually said this, but what I do know is that I am eternally grateful for this human who spoke this and wrote it down. You may not know where to go from your struggles, and that they are meaningless. Your struggles are never meaningless, they're strengthening you and showing you a whole new perspective. There is light at the end of the tunnel and that light is you.
2. "She has fire in her soul and grace in her heart"
Again, I do not know the beautiful soul who said this, but it has stuck with me since I read it. Often I wake up and I don't feel like this, I feel powerless. When I fall into the slump of the daily routine of work and school, it sometimes makes me feel like I want to give up. Whenever I feel that way though I look back on this and my heart fills.
3. "The world shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage"
-Anais Nin
Anais, you are genius. This is currently the background on my phone. This is encouragement every day to be courageous and live fearlessly despite my obstacles.
4. "He does not come when we want him to, but he always comes on time"
I actually heard this spoken by a pastor at church last week and instantly wrote it down. There's so many things that I feel like I want so badly right now, but this is a great reminder that God will always come on time and will never leave you hanging. Patience is key and it's often the hardest act.
5. "Sometimes your circle decreases in size, but increases in value."
As I am getting older, (19 i'm so old right?) you lose touch with a lot of people you used to spend every moment with. College is espeically testing of friendships and sometimes it shows you that some trickled away for a reason. As my friend group gets smaller, I am actually more grateful because I know each of my friends on a deeper level than ever before. Embrace the change.
6. "Anytime you're going to grow, you're going to lose something. You're losing what you're hanging onto to keep safe. You're losing habits that you're comfortable with, you're losing familiarity."
-James Hillman
A little lengthy, but my absolute favorite quote at this moment in my life. Whether you just changed colleges, lost someone you love, or broke up with someone you thought you loved, this is the read for you. We get so stuck in going through the motions, we get comfortable and we lose sight of what is most important. Many times I have been ripped out of my comfort zone unwillingly. This quote has actually empowered me to break free from my comfort zones to pursue my own happiness for once. Lose what is familiar, because you'll learn so much more about yourself, more than you could ever imagine.
These quotes all fall into line with change. Any change is hard, especially unwanted change. These quotes have brought me comfort through breakups, loss and fear. These words have inspired me to chase the happiness that I deserve and I hope they encourage you to pursue great things.
