11 Reasons To Thank My Younger Sister

A younger sister is the eternal friend.

She has no choice but to like you, even when you steal her clothes, blame her for everything and let's not even mention what you put her through as a child. As you grow older your relationship changes, from a love-hate to a best friend. So, thank you for letting me torture you when we were growing up, and sorry you never got to be the teacher when we played school. There are many reasons to thank you, but mainly bless your soul for putting up with me.

1. Sporting my hand-me-downs and never letting my clothes go out of style

From beaded wire chokers to knit ponchos, and even my prize possession of sparkly jeans, you wore them all. Whether you wanted to or not, you modeled my early 2000’s fashion around and made sure their legacy never died.

2. Being my ugly Snapchat buddy with 100 percent trust

These days you never can tell who to trust with your horrifying and embarrassing snaps. It’s all fun and games until your birthday collage debuts with pictures that you didn’t know were saved. So thank you for following the unspoken rule that forbids all screenshots.

3. Treating you as my real life doll when we were kids

From the moment you came home from the hospital, I thought I was your mother. Thank you for going along with it. Thanks for letting me curl your hair and put makeup on you, and for listening to me when I told you I am supposed to pick out your daily outfits.

4. Being an A+ student when we played school

I know I never let you be the teacher, but that’s just because I knew it was your calling to remain the student. Hopefully, you saved the report cards I gave you.

5. Keeping me company at the kid’s table during my preteen years

At Thanksgiving and Christmas, I knew I always had you to sit by me while I rolled my eyes thinking I was so above the table assigned to me. I’m sorry for leaving you a few years ago, but it was time for me to move on.

6. Fearlessly taking on the role of Prince Eric in Barbie and the Nutcracker

At the end of the movie when Barbie and the prince danced together, no one could play his part quite like you did. Even though I was roughly a foot taller than you at that age I always had to play Barbie, obviously.

7. Providing me with endless entertainment

Remember the time I convinced you that I don’t go to school, but actually am a character on the TV show "The Doodlebops." That will go down in history. I thought I was hilarious, but later realized it was just pure evil to trick a 6-year-old.

8. Rocking the matching Easter and Christmas outfits for years in our younger days

How could we ever forget the thick green-striped Easter dresses with matching straw hats or velour jumpsuits from LimitedToo?

9. Joining forces with me against the older sibling

Even though we only have one brother, at times it can feel like we have five. Thanks for backing me up when I tried to get him in trouble. You were my little protégé, and I wanted to teach you all my genius plans.

10. Teaching me to pick my battles

Throughout the years if there is one tip I learned, it’s that having a screaming match over who gets to wear shared clothing items is not worth it. Luckily, I know that now and haven’t experienced these issues in college.

11. Being my first roommate

Even though I referred to it as “my room,” and sometimes ignored your presence, deep down I was happy you were there. I wouldn’t want to force anyone else to stay up with me past our bedtime besides you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
