Sisterhood At Blue Mountain College

Rush week 2016 is finished! Here's what I learned!

Sisterhood At Blue Mountain College

Blue Mountain is a very special place to me, and to everyone else who is here. One especially special thing about Blue Mountain is the multitudinous opportunities to socialize and come together with your fellow students and bond. One of those ways was just revealed to us Freshmen and Transfers through Rush Week.

Yes, I'm talking about Societies.

There are five Societies, two for guys and three for the ladies. Now, I have no idea anything about the male Societies (sorry guys!), but the girl societies all threw awesome parties for us newcomers- and for the oldies, let's be real- and I enjoyed every second I got to experience them. In chronological order of parties, we have the Eunomians, the Euzelians, and the Modenians. I could go into the history of every Society, and it's really interesting! But really, what I want to focus on is the Societies today. Right now.

The Eunomian Society's mascots are Raggedy Ann and Andy, their flower is the daisy, and their colors are gold and white. And what better color to represent these bright and sunshiny girls? They're loud. They're enthusiastic. Their chant says they "never get tired, never take a rest" and a statement couldn't be truer. With their barn dance and their loud personalities, they wore me out! But more than that, the Eunomians make you want to jump right in with the rest. They keep you dancing and laughing. Whether they're social butterflies or wallflowers, Eunomians are sunshiny and truly willing to help. It's no wonder their motto truly reflects who they are as a society "Quality."

The Euzealian sisterhood is strong and true. Their motto is "Culture, Poise, and Power" and their mascot is Winnie the Pooh. They have the calm and cool color- my favorite color- blue. This wonderful group of sisters are no strangers to friendship. If you seek out friendship in a Z, you're sure to find it with her. These girls have just as beautiful souls as their flower, the gardenia, is. Although they might not seem as loud as the Eunomians, the Euzealians are just as true friends. Their party was a fun and calm way to wind down after the nonstop movement of the Eunomian party. The easy friendship is ever true testament that always, "You got a friend in Z."

Last, but certainly not least, we have the Modenians. The Modenian color is red, their mascot is snoopy and their flower is the rose. The girls of the Modenian society stick true to their motto "Originality." The Modenian party was bumping with their chocolate. Fountain. And their sparklers. The girls were cool and excited. The few but mighty Modenians are truly unique in their own right. They're just as friendly as the other two Societies, and their emphasis is truly on celebrating the differences of each of them.

Alright ladies, we have a choice to make. Don't worry, it's not going to be one you can regret! All three Societies have so much to offer, you can't go wrong! The most important thing to do is choose where you feel the most comfortable. And if you want to be a Z, but your friend is going Mo, don't worry! You'll still have friends whatever you choose. Just remember to be yourself. I know it seems hard to decide between these three wonderful sisterhoods. Just remember, the sisterhood isn't just for your society sisters. We always have sisters in the others too! And sisters always have each other's backs!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
