Being the oldest sibling, and the only girl is definitely interesting. I am extremely overprotective of my brothers, but they're also extremely overprotective of me. I think overall they are the best gift I could have asked for in this life. Sure we fight, but if we didn't, would we really be siblings?

Through being an older sister, especially to brothers, I have learned so much both about myself and life.

When you have younger brothers you:

Are basically like a mom.

Jessica Jones-Thompson

If you're like me you have definitely been accidentally called mom a few times. And I mean it really isn't that far off when you give them rides and money a lot and have been there over their shoulder since they were babies.

Have developed a ton of patience because of them.

Jessica Jones-Thompson

You know they drive you insane. They are constantly in your ear bugging you about things because they are your annoying little brothers. But through dealing with this you definitely have developed patience.

Only want the best for them.

Jessica Jones-Thompson

No matter what they do, they are still your little brothers (even if they tower over you) who deserve the world and you won't allow them to settle for any less. So you set your expectations high and push them to do the best that they can.

Think most girls aren't good enough for them.

Madyson Thompson

Of course, there are a few exceptions, but most of the girls they encounter you do not approve of. You and your mom seriously only want them with the best and so you have high expectations. And when someone comes around that you actually do like you yell at them to be nice and keep her around.

Are extremely protective of them.

Jessica Jones-Thompson

They have been your real life baby dolls since the second they were born and you will never let them live that down, and you will always be protective of them. At games, if someone fouls them you are so angry because no one can hurt your brothers.

Are their biggest fan (Okay, maybe second biggest, but only behind your mom).

Jessica Jones-Thompson

Having younger brothers is like having your own kids and basically everything they do you get excited for. When they score their first goal, or touchdown, or have their first shut out. When they make a team or pass a test, you are there with them cheering them on the loudest way you can.

Are their lifelong teacher.

Jessica Jones-Thompson

You love teaching them, being promoted to a big sister is super exciting and it means you get to be someone's role model. They'll probably never admit it but deep down they look up to you and want to follow in your footsteps.

Have lifelong best friends.

Jessica Jones-Thompson

Sure you argue back and forth, maybe sometimes even fist fight but then an hour later you are asking each other if anyone is hungry and all is good again. This will continue on and then one day you're all older and you call each other to borrow something or have your kids meet up, you'll have people who automatically are your friends and make your family and life much bigger.

Are stronger because of them.

Jessica Jones-Thompson

Both physically and mentally you can find yourself having more strength because of them. They might be younger but often will outgrow you and can more than likely win in fights so you have to gain strength to get that one up. They also give you strength mentally because they teach you so many things through the years and while interacting and moving forward you gain more strength in your own mind and life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
