I have read so many articles, especially on the Odyssey, that talk about reasons your sister is your best friend forever, or reasons to thank your big sister. And yes, my sister fits some of that criteria, but I guess for the most part that you could say, my sister is different. I don't borrow my sisters clothes, and its not often that my sister and I have a heart to heart. My sister does not fit the stereotype and I can honestly day that I'm glad she doesn't. These are the qualities that make my sister different.
1. My sister doesn't always give the best advice.
She has literally sat there and listened to me cry. My sister and I don't always communicate the best, but that does not stop her from being there for me. Sometimes, I just need to cry and for someone to tell me that it is going to be ok. That's where my sister comes in, and I wouldn't want anyone else to do it.
2. Rather than "break in my parents", my sister set the example for me.
I can honestly say that my sister has never done anything bad enough that is worth remembering. My parents rarely fussed at my sister. She was pretty quiet, and did not get into much trouble growing up. When I looked at my sister, I knew the type of person I wanted to be. I wanted to be the person who was diligent and trustworthy. My sister was my role model.
3. My sister never let me hang out with her friends.
I can not say thank you enough for this one Sis. If I would have spent my time with your friends, I wouldn't have friends my own age. Yes, I got kicked out of slumber parties. Yes, I got told I was too little to join in on the fun! But, I can't thank my sister enough for not letting me grow up too fast!
4. My sister is my secret protector.
My sister will never admit to it, but she is super protective of me and my brother. If someone ever messed with us, I knew I could count on my sister to take care of it. Whether it was telling someone off or making sure someone didn't hurt me, my sister was there.
5. My sister was not my #1 fan.
My sister didn't have time to attend all my sporting events when we were growing up because she had her own events to attend. It was rare that I looked out into the crowd and saw my sister sitting there cheering me on. Instead, my sister was my coach! She took everything she learned and helped me improve my game. She is one of the major reasons that I know the game backwards and forwards, and it is because of her that I developed a love for the sports we both played.
6. I do not regularly hang out with sister.
My sister and I don't get the chance to hang out on a regular basis. We are two totally different people and I am ok with that. All the times that I don't get to see my sister, make the times that I do get to see her a million times better. When we do hang out, we are able to catch up and have great conversations.
I don't know where I would be today without my sister. I always know that I can count on her if ever I need. We are two separate people connected by a secret sister bond!
