I have read a lot of sister blog posts out there, giving thanks to all the older sisters who have helped pave the lives of their younger siblings. However, the relationship my sister and I have is a little bit different than just that.
My sister and I are very different people. She is more to herself and quiet, where I sometimes do not know how to stop talking. She has also lived a very different life than me. Even though we went to the same schools, lived in the same house, and shared the same family, we have gone through very different things in our lives, making us very unique.
I won't lie. Many times I have wished I could have lived a life more like my sister's. She is so responsible. She seems to do things the right way the first time. I, for some odd reason, like to pick the road less traveled, which is usually filled with potholes and detour signs. However, whenever I am feeling lonely on this long, hard road, my sister always gives me a hand to hold.
Even though she may not fully understand the things I have gone through, she understands me. My sister understands me in a way that no one else does. She seems to feel my pain, happiness, and all other emotions I have gone through, making me feel as if I am not so alone. She offers me a different perspective, allowing me to see the brighter side of every situation.
She is a light in this world, my light, that can never be dimmed.
I want to say thank you, a million times, for being blessed with the best older sister I could have ever asked for. I have looked up to her for my entire life, but in so many ways, she has made me look up to myself as well. She is my biggest supporter. Always, she always encourages me to be myself, no matter how many people tell me it's not enough.
Whenever I feel low, I know that I have a person I can count on. A person who sees me for me and loves me for it. A person who I can cry to about the same thing over and over again, but never gets annoyed or testy. A person that has been my best friend since birth.
Keep being your amazing, beautiful self. Love ya, Sista!
