6 Reasons Why Your Older Sister Is The Best Role Model

I'm suddenly at that age where I'm grateful for everything, especially the things that I took for granted when I was younger.

I'm grateful to have a place to call home and a bed to sleep in — but more importantly, I am grateful to have someone to look up to. That person is not a celebrity or an athlete — she's better than that. She's my older sister.

There are a million reasons why an older sister is the best role model to have, but here are just a few.

1. She shares her passions with you

You often have similar interests as your older sister because she introduced it to you first. At a young age, your parents most likely put you and your older sister in the same activities together, and she was there to guide you through it all.

2. She has a special kind of wisdom

Whether it be something you don't want to talk with your parents about or an unconventional piece of wisdom, older sisters seriously know everything (especially about the most random things). And because your sister has a couple more years of experience than you, she often gives the best advice.

3. She is loyal and protective

Older sisters are extremely protective and loyal to their younger siblings. Your big sis may even be more protective of you than your parents. Although this may be annoying at times, you know that she just wants the best for you.

4. She will do anything to help you

She'll drop whatever she's doing just to help you. From answering your phone call in the middle of the night to driving you everywhere when you didn't have a license, your older sister is the most selfless person you know (even though they still haven't given back that shirt they borrowed a year ago.) She is the biggest supporter in your life, and she'll do anything to see you succeed.

5. She is the best friend to have

An older sister is the friend you never knew you needed. Sometimes she may seem too interested in the events of your life, but she really just wants to be involved. She was there with you through everything, and she always will be. Older sisters are best friends that will stick around forever, no matter what.

6. She is everything you aspire to be

A big sister is the best role model because she's an example of who you want to be in the future. Looking back now, you see that her qualities are something you've tried to emulate for a large portion of your life.

And let's face it, while you were growing up, she may have really gotten on your nerves. But now that you're older, you realize that she is someone you look up to and someone that you're truly proud to call your sister.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
