I’ll be heading back to school in August. I'll reconnect and continue making memories with the many new friends I made over freshman year—many who I know will remain lifelong friends. And for now, I’m not single, I’m not taken, I’m simply on reserve for the one who deserves my heart.
Important points that I'll keep in mind this upcoming school year are:
Self-discovery and personal growth rock! Understanding who you are can take shape when you spend quality time with yourself. Learning to be on your own and knowing who you are without attending to someone else is really quite empowering.
It’s your decision. You are not bound to anyone. If you feel like forgoing a party and decided to stay in and binge watch 80s movies—go for it—no excuses required!
Just have fun. College passes quickly—and you can’t get those years back. Memories made during those four years will last a lifetime—so if you find yourself single during some of those years—embrace that time and don’t sulk on the fact that you don’t have a relationship.
Things happen when you least expect it. Meeting the right guy or girl can happen when you least expect it, especially in college. Relax and be comfortable in your own skin and be happy with who you are—once you do that—that perfect person may magically appear and it will be great.
Leave college with no regrets. You don’t want to look back and regret having spent so much time in a relationship the first few years that revolved around stupid arguments and/or no trust. Wouldn’t you rather look back and think about all the great memories you have from the fun things you experienced? Remember—college is over in a blink of an eye.
For me, I’m realizing that I don’t need a relationship to be in a happy place with myself. I’ve learned to not stress about it and just live my life to the fullest, because as my mom has told me—you can’t get those years back. I’m also not going to seek someone out; instead, I’m going to let them come into my life freely and without force...resulting in full-blown heart flutters.
