Dear you,
I do not even know where to begin when writing this letter to you. There are so many things I want to say and so many memories I want to reflect on. So, I guess I'll start by just saying this: thank you.
Thank you for being honest. You're the first person I'll go to for advice because I know you'll tell it like it is, even if the truth hurts. You taught me that boys suck and nothing gets better than going causal.
Thank you for inspiring me. I promise that every single time I copied your outfit choice or your "party bun," it was just because I thought you were the coolest person ever. Can you really blame me for wanting to be as awesome as you?
Thanks for encouraging me. You have taught me to keep going when I was ready to give up on things; so many of the things I've done in my life are thanks to you. By the way, I could not ask for a better ski teacher than you. (Just kidding, you were really mean and I needed those sticks.)
Thank you for the memories. Yes, there will be plenty more memories made, but thank you for the ones we have already made. From making mud pies in the playhouse for daddy to going out together in G-Vegas, thank you for it all.
Thank you for making mistakes first. The one I can learn from is you. We are all human and, of course, we all make mistakes. Thank you for making your own mistakes so openly and then using them as a way to give me some of the best advice I've ever received.
Last but not least...
Thank you for being my person. Through our ups and downs, I know that you are there for me at the end of the day. I'd do absolutely anything for you and love you more than you could ever imagine. You are my best friend, and I cannot thank you enough for that.
To you, I cannot express how grateful I am to have you in my life. I refuse to call you my "step-sister" because you are much more than that. There’s truly no greater bond than a sister-sister duo, and ever since I was three, you have been my rock and protector in life. You have taught me so many life lessons, it’s incredible. There are not enough words to describe how much you mean to me, but just know it’s a lot more than you think.
By the time you are reading this, you will be on a plane traveling across the world. I knew this day was coming, but I wish it was not today. You have always been a wanderlust person and your dream is about to turn into a reality. I cannot tell you enough how proud I am of you.
27 months is a long time, but it will fly by (I hope). I cannot wait to see pictures and hear all about how you are changing the world. You inspire me every single day. I love you no matter the distance between us.
Sincerely,
Your little sister
P.S. I will drink a lot of margaritas, eat a lot of tacos and rock my party pony just for you.
