Alright, alright, it's December now, folks. For all of my fellow students abroad, we've been who knows where for who knows how long. I don't know about you all, but I'm definitely ready to get back to the good old home of the free and resume my life. We've been through the excitement, traveling, crippling homesickness, anxiety, and wild adventures. But it's about time to get on that plane back home. If one thing is for certain, "Bob's Burgers" took a major role in getting me through it all, so here are some Belcher family themed signs you're done with your abroad experience.
1. Thanksgiving taunted you like you wouldn't believe.
To be fair, I had around three mock Thanksgiving dinners, which were all delicious. However that didn't stop the plethora of Snapchats of people's dogs and mothers furiously baking from getting to me. Although I had Thanksgiving, all I really wanted was to be surrounded by familiar people.
2. You've started to go absolutely insane in your extremely tiny room.
Privacy is great, don't get me wrong. But when you're trapped in a room that's only eleven by six feet, it can start to feel like a prison cell. I find that if I spend more than three hours alone in there by myself, I turn into a nervous wreck.
3. You find yourself reaching out for any form of human contact.
With the boyfriend and friends at home, it's hard to come by physical touch. Whenever someone touches me or consoles me in any way, I automatically want to just nuzzle up. Not saying I'll kiss anyone like Tina over here, but I'm always a little too excited for a hug.
4. You've seen too many European boys in skinny jeans.
Your pants are too tight! Please take me back to the land of athletic shorts and oversized khakis.
5. You can't help but squirm at the amount of fun your friends are having back home.
FOMO is extremely real.
6. You when someone asks you if "you're alright":
You should be having fun, right? You shouldn't want to go home yet, right? Wrong. You've had your time here. You've done your thing. It's hard to contain yourself when all you want to do is cry out for Dad to come pick you up.
7. You become irrationally happy anytime someone mentions anything about the States.
Whether they're talking about people playing football with their hands or just asking you about how it's different, you jump at every opportunity to talk about your lovely home in the U.S.A.
8. You find yourself mimicking the accent.
You know it's time to go home when you start slipping into your country's accent. You're not doing a good job. You've just been here too long, friend.
9. You have a enjoy a few beverages to pass the slowly dwindling days.
With the drinking age being 18 and 3-pound bottles of wine at your disposable, you can't help having a few glasses to take away the homesickness.
10. You feel like there's not much more you can get out of this experience.
You feel kind of bad because you should be still be living the abroad dream right up until your flight, right? It's not your fault that your brain can't handle any more stimulation. All you want is to snuggle up on your couch with your family dog and do absolutely nothing.
11. You as soon as that plane takes off.
When you finally do get to the airport, the nervous jitters will come back. You'll be zipping on out of your abroad country to be met with welcomed reverse culture shock.
