If you’re in a long-distance relationship, you must have a great deal of patience. Just about the majority of your time is spent waiting, counting down months or weeks or days. The other part of your time is spent explaining: explaining where your partner lives or goes to school, explaining why you’re still together, explaining when you’ll see each other next.
People may look at you with a confused face when they hear you’re in a LDR. They think you’re an alien from another planet, and almost always comment on how “they could never do that.” But you know. The waiting, explaining and comments mean nothing in comparison to seeing your partner after a long time. Maybe your fall breaks didn’t match up. Maybe you saw each other briefly but didn’t get a lot of time together. But as Thanksgiving gets closer, long-distance partners across the country are getting hyped up, and not just for the turkey. Here are 11 signs you’re one of them.
1. You have a countdown app.
Like I said, if you’re in a LDR, you do a lot of waiting, Thankfully we have countdown apps that let us know how many days, hours, even seconds are left between us and our partner.
2. You’re pumped.
Your friends are really excited to go home for the holidays, but you’re so pumped and so hype and you just can't even, gosh. You don’t get the regular holiday activities; you get dates and couple pictures. Who’s the real winner now?
3. Your Skype and FaceTime dates have started to get longer.
Because you’re talking and planning all the fun things you’re going to do together when you finally see each other again.
4. Going to bed at night is the best part of your day.
Because you know you’re one day closer to seeing your partner. Because your countdown app says so.
5. You’re daydreaming more.
About your partner, about the holidays, about your partner and the holidays. You just can’t keep your mind off the bliss that is seeing your significant other.
6. You’re buying plane tickets!
Or train tickets, or even just gas for your car. In any case, you’re getting prepped and ready to make the long-awaited trip to see your partner. Not even traveling can dampen your mood.
7. You can’t even bear to thing about school after break.
School after break means no more break which means no more partner. Which equals tears and a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.
8. You can’t get that ridiculous smile off your face.
The world is great. Life is great. My partner is great. And I'm going to see them again soon, la di da! Yay!
9. You’re watching sappy rom-coms.
You finally allow yourself to watch rom-coms now that you’re close to seeing your love. You can watch people kiss happily without feeling angrily jealous. If you had done this a month ago, there would have been no laughs and a mountain of chocolate wrappers and tissues on the floor.
10. You’re overwhelmed with the time left.
And the amount of work you have to do before break. So many papers and tests left, ah.
11. But you’re thrilled because there's like no time left!
Two weeks is basically like a couple days, right? I get to see my partner in a couple days! Whooooooo!
