Signs You Know You Wanted to Be Back At College

We are finally a few weeks in and getting back into the swing of things in our school year. It’s nothing like high school, not even close to middle and definitely not at all anything like the grade school days. In college we have Summer when May is still here and Spring is almost over. It feels like forever once August finally rolls around and I am sure I’m not alone when I say I miss some things about college. Here are some of those things.

The area itself

You basically made the choice of where you go to school based on where its located. Location is top priority when it comes to distance close to home for the commuters and far away for those actually living on campus. Either way you are getting away from your original location for either a few hours or a few months.

Some of your professors

In any type of schooling you had your fair share of favorite professors. College is one of those places where you really have to get to know the person before you make any judgments, especially on who teaches you. If you get one that cancels class every once in awhile, then you are immediately in love!

Your living space for the year

Some living spaces on campus are not the greatest, let’s admit that. However, if you make it worthwhile, then you would definitely miss it for that long Winter break! Even if you are living off campus that living space is gorgeous regardless of what you do and don’t have (since you know, you wanted avoid that on campus scene).

Some of your classes

Depending on your major or the open electives you’re taking, you’re probably thinking on that Thanksgiving break how much you want to be in that class right now. I know for me some classes depended on how interested I was in them (mostly my major of course) but the open electives I loved and always wanted to come back to or take again if I could.

More importantly, the friends you made

OF COURSE!! HOW CAN I FORGET THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! YOUR FRIENDS! The ones you met on day one of either move in or orientation. Those great bonds you left for either the week off, that long winter break or you leaving the college for a semester then coming back, those friends will be with you no matter what!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
