8 Signs You Are A Summer Nanny

The summer season brings warm weather, vacations, children out of school, and along with all of this the flock of nannies. The kids are out of school and the parents are stuck at work, but no fear the college nannies are here! We unintentionally develop habits that are accustomed to our job. Here are just a few of the many habits nannies have.

1. You check the weather more than the average person.

Is it going to be a pool/beach day or a movie/craft day? The answer is more important than you think.

2. You learn all of your nanny kid's mannerisms.

After spending day after day with your nanny kid you know the hour they will come up to you saying, "I'm hungry." You are an expert on what makes your nanny kid(s) mad, embarrassed, tired, and happy.

3. You find yourself becoming more domestic.

Cooking and cleaning are not my forte, that is until I became a nanny. Making lunches, packing snacks, cleaning up the kids' toys, doing dishes, cleaning up dirt tracks the kids left behind, and doing someone else's laundry become the norm. You may even find yourself start to like these tasks.

4. You are basically a glorified "Uber."

You never imagined you would drive this much, but with lessons, camps, sports practices, and play dates you find yourself chauffeuring your nanny kid(s) everywhere.

5. You can't make it through the day without at least one caffeinated drink.

Waking up early and then having to keep up with the energy of a child requires a little pick-me-up.

6. You become invested in the Disney Channel shows that the kids watch.

What do you mean Maddie and Liv are going their separate ways? What happened to "sisters by chance, friends by choice?" Yes, it is pathetic, but what else do you expect me to do when it's the only channel they watch?

7. You feel prepared to be a mother.

I have faced messes and tantrums everyday, so naturally you are fully equipped to have your own children. Deep down you also know there is no way you could handle this full time at this point in your life. You also have extreme appreciation for parents that do your job 24/7.

8. You wouldn't trade your job for any other summer job.

Yes, you basically have no social life because you work all day and then you are exhausted and want to relax. I would take caring for a fourth grade girl 8 hours a day for 5 days a week over working with annoying customers any day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
