Nine out of ten times, you go into rush week overwhelmed with the reputations of the different sororities and outsider opinions of which is the "best," but that's not what it's about. There's so much more to choosing your sorority than who's the prettiest or who parties more. The connection between you and that sorority is more than just a superficial connection. You want to find that special bond between not only you and the women in that sorority but also you and that sorority as a whole organization. So, these are some of the signs you have found "the one."
1. You have a personal connection with their philanthropy or you just like theirs the most.
Every sorority has a specific focus for philanthropy whether it is breast cancer or domestic violence, each helps in their own way. When you have a personal experience with the thing they're raising money for, it creates a deeper connection with you. You don't just see it as helping strangers, you see it as helping a loved one and not just raising money for some random organization.
2. You find yourself having actual conversations with the sisters not just nervous small talk.
We've all gone through the awkward introduction where you list your name, grade, major, etc. However, when you find those women you connect with instantly, you get past those necessary introductions and right into a meaningful conversation. There's no hesitation for either side and you feel completely comfortable standing and talking to these people for as long as you're allowed.
3. You can see yourself proudly wearing the sorority's colors and letters every day, all day, for the rest of your life.
Most people are drawn to the sorority with their favorite color or with the prettiest color combination, and you really can't blame them since those are the colors they'll probably have on 95% of the time. Wearing the letters proudly goes without saying that you are proud of your sorority and what they stand for! You will more than likely hear the phrase “You are always wearing your letters,” which means that people will know what one you are a part of and your actions may fall back to that sorority. Physically you may only wear them/the colors 95% of the time but you are truly wearing them 100% of the time.
4. You're still 100% for that sorority even though your friend wants to join another.
Most women go through recruitment clinging to the hand of their friend that's also going through. You both are trying to find your matches, and unfortunately, they aren't always the same and that's okay. You don't have to stop being friends if you want different sororities or draw straws to see which one you'll both join. You'll both still be friends if you join your different sororities, and you'll both be happy when you know you made the right decision. No matter the letters, we're all Greek together.
5. You actually pay attention to all, or at least most, of the information they throw at you.
Information about the sorority like their philanthropy, founding, symbols, and so on. When you're going from sorority to sorority, it gets overwhelming trying to actually listen and remember all the facts they tell you. You're too busy trying to make a good impression to remember what their symbol is or when they were founded.
