I’ll admit it, I’m probably the worst procrastinator in the world. I literally find anything to do instead of what I am supposed to be doing. It’s like I’m allergic to doing things early — or really anytime except for the night before. All procrastinators know there are a few tricks that we all use, maybe without even knowing it. You might be a procrastinator if…
1. You finish a show on Netflix instead of finishing your paper.
We’ve all done it. We starting watching a series on Netflix and the next thing you know we’ve finished the whole thing. And your paper? Well, you wrote your name. That’s a good enough start, right?
2. You do a project that’s not due for another month because it’s more fun.
You just think about starting it because you know it is going to be more fun than whatever you’re working on. But instead, you finish the whole thing. And whatever you were working on is due tomorrow. No biggie…
3. Naps become a necessity.
So what if you’ve never really been able to take a nap before?
4. You constantly feel like you should be doing your work…but you don’t.
You know you should, you keep thinking about what you have to do. But…you're not doing it. You’re doing something so much more important, like sleeping.
5. Doing it tomorrow always sounds like a task you could accomplish.
Well, that is, until you get to tomorrow…
6. Your physical fitness becomes instantly important.
Who cares if you haven’t been to the gym in, like, seven years? You suddenly need to go work out right now!
7. You spring clean year-round.
If might be the middle of the winter, but that spring cleaning fever hits you HARD and you can’t ignore it anymore. Me cleaning instead of working? Never! Who would do such a thing…
8. Every second the day before is priceless.
The minutes between tasks and activities can be the difference between finishing your task or not. Every little second in the day before it’s due is a second that you need to be using to finish your assignment.
9. You’re a night owl by necessity.
You may hate staying up late, but you have become a night owl because you need those extra hours to finish everything.
10. You always say you’ll never do this to yourself again.
You say you’ll never put yourself in that corner again or you’ll get more sleep the next time, but deep down, you know you’re lying to yourself.
11. It’s the best thing when you actually finish something early.
What? You’re done before midnight? You mean to say I can actually get some sleep tonight?! What a magical moment this is.
Procrastination happens to the best of us, but only a real procrastinator knows all of these things are true. If you’re reading this article, you’re probably trying to find something besides what you need to do. May I suggest watching "Friends" on Netflix next?
