I have a confession to make—over the past five years, I have developed a coffee fetish. It all began when 5 a.m. swim practices became a part of my everyday life. Since then, I have begun college and my need for coffee has gradually increased. I am sure everyone has witnessed firsthand the ridiculously long Starbucks lines on campus or the midtown Dunkin Donuts line. Therefore, it appears that coffee is a universal issue (survival tool) for college students. So without further ado, here are five signs that you too are a true coffee lover:
1. Making Plans
When making plans to meet up with a friend during the week, you are the first to suggest getting coffee.
2. You Get Caffeine Headaches
One of the worst migraines I have ever faced was when I was sick for a week and could not drink coffee. People who regularly consume coffee, around 500 milligrams a day, will often suffer from bad headaches when trying to cut down on their caffeine consumption.
3. You Leave Early for Class or Work In Order to Buy Coffee
Your worst nightmare is running out of K-Cups at your apartment because normal coffee just will not be satisfying enough to get you through the day. You have to allot an extra 10-15 minutes to get to class in order to stop at Dunkin, Starbucks, Pascals, etc. Maybe those extra 10-15 minutes of sleep would’ve been better, but a true coffee lover will not take that chance.
4. You Are on a First-Name Basis with the Baristas
You are a regular at numerous coffee shops and are on first-name basis with the baristas. They will ask you about your classes, your sports, or your jobs. If they are baristas from your hometown coffee shops, they will be excited to see you when you return home from school and will look forward to hearing about how your life has been going.
5. You Do Not Understand How People Don’t Like Coffee
While it is probably a good thing they do not like coffee and it probably saves them so much money, you have a hard time understanding how people do not like coffee. It is part of your everyday life and you cannot even begin to imagine how people start their day without it.
So, thank you coffee.
