Nursing majors share the undying force to dedicate their lives to their work in order to care for the mental physical and emotional needs of humanity. We are a breed of people that understand the 11 major and complex organ systems of the human body. We prepare for the battlefront of all medical settings through rigorous course work, numerous exams and many hours of clinical education. We are artist in our own unique element, our brushes are the hands that we will use to create wellness in others, we are paintings that exhibit the strength of endurance, but with gentleness. Nursing students have a rich bloodline that can be traced back to the great nurses that set the bar of health care to higher standards such as Florence Nightingale and Mary Breckinridge.
But before a great nurse can be born, they have to go through four years of Nursing School. Anyone who has been through nursing school can understand the high expectations set on the students and can agree that it’s not an easy task to accomplish but if done, will be the most rewarding. If you’re a nursing student right now or have been one you will recognize the 14 common signs and symptoms of a hardworking determined nursing major student trying their best.
1. Eye-bags
These designer bags are custom made for people that get less then 5 hours of sleep because they study.
2. Poor Grooming
"Yes I just came from a six-hour library session. No I have not showered in three days, why do you ask?"
3. A closet full of nice clothes that we never get a chance to wear out.
4. Glazed over eyes
These are the eyes that have stared into the soul of a pathophysiology book for past three hours.
5. Dealing with endless questions with four possible correct answers that all make sense.
Sure it's the right answer but it's not the most correct answer.
6. Looking at newbies in the library on exam week
You’ve been living in the walls of the library since the first day of the semester. You know where everything is located and hard working faces that in come on the regular. The library is your home, the students that only come on exam week are only visitors.
7. Explaining to friends what vitamins are in their food
I have this undying need to tell my friends and family that the spinach they are currently consuming has folic acid , Vitamin A, K and Magnesium and the importance of each nutrient.
8. Always prepared to study anytime , anywhere.
There is always time to squeeze in a few note cards at your distant great great uncles funeral.
9. Sacrificing opportunities to go out on Friday nights because you have to study.
10. People always coming to you to take care of them and/or treat them.
11. Realizing only nursing students understand what it's like to be a nursing student
"Yes I absolutely love being told that I should just become a doctor if I basically hold the same knowledge as one."
12.Realizing you can't tolerate any other nursing majors except for a select few.
I never realized so many entitled and arrogant people could co-exsist in a major that requires compassion and empathy to survive in the work force. Hang on tight to your fellow humble and kind nursing student friends, trust me you need them and they need you. Please don't forget we're all in this together so be kind to one another!

13. Having a poor diet
"I dont have any time to eat I have two papers to write and three exams to study for !"
14. Having a mental breakdown from all the stress at least once a week.
But through all the trails nursing school throws our way , students hurtle through with endurance because we know one day we will be able to clip our name tags on our scrubs and walk onto a hospital unit knowing we will be able to save lives. So to all my fellow nursing students, keep going. You can do it , you're not in this alone and good luck.
