Having Siblings, As Told By SpongeBob

Siblings. Can’t live with them and can’t live with them. There is nothing weirder in this world than being forced to live and get along with one or multiple people and the fact that you can’t escape them because, well, they are family is a whole other story. I mean honestly, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have siblings because whether it’s a good day or a rough day with them, they sure make life so much more interesting. What better way to explain the life of having siblings than SpongeBob?

Getting in trouble:

You know those times when you and your siblings get in a fight and technically you are both at fault but your parents only punish one of you? There is nothing better to describe that feeling of feeling victorious.

Bathroom wars:

Especially in high school and growing up, it was always a struggle to have to share one bathroom between all of your siblings. You have probably been in there and your sibling bangs on the door telling you to hurry up. Why yell back? Instead just respond with the only way SpongeBob would.

Insults:

It’s part of the sibling handbook that insults are a certainty in any relationship. I don’t trust people who don’t fight with their siblings from time to time, and some insults might be minor but others are straight up low blows. I think I’ll use this one from Spongebob next time the moment is right.

Family meetings:

From time to time all families come together to discuss things that need to be talked about. Most of the time it’s your parents telling you all some sort of bad news or something that you all roll your eyes at, at the time. You all have the same outlook on your parents who certainly love and care about you, but the minute they open their mouth to start a family discussion you all sit there knowing what they are about to say is probably going to be irrelevant.

Revenge:

The “You get me, I’m going to get you back” spoken agreement between siblings is all too real. Never do anything to your siblings that you know will have really bad consequences. But sometimes we can’t help it and we accidentally do things like run over their iPod with the lawnmower.

“Those days”:

We all have those days where we wake up either stressed or in a bad mood, maybe because you don’t feel like dealing with anything, especially your siblings. So the minute you see them in the morning and you can tell when they open their mouths it’s going to be to nag or say something annoying, Squidward has us covered.

Getting along maybe…

No matter how much you try to please them or get along, sometimes siblings just have it out for one another, but that’s OK. You know you’ll be fine, but if you have never felt like Plankton here with your siblings, do you even have any?

Can you do me a favor?

Come on, as siblings we try and help each other out when we can. Sometimes it doesn’t go both ways though. You do something for them and don’t expect the world back but when you are in need, they should help you, right? It doesn’t always happen, so you just shrug it off because it’s typical sibling behavior, but not without giving some sort of sarcastic comment to them.

Gifts:

Whether it’s their birthday or a holiday, getting siblings gifts is hard sometimes, and let’s face it -— sometimes you don’t even want to deal with it. So, things probably end up going like this:

“The smell”:

I don’t know about anyone else, but all the time when one of my siblings (brother) gets back from working out, it’s not a pretty smell. The minute they step in the house you know something is up. Why does it all of a sudden smell horrible? Mr. Krabs has the thought mentality down.

Proving them wrong:

There is no greater feeling than getting into an argument with your siblings and when they realize you were right all along. You give them that look — that evil smile of “I told you” — and life has never been better.

Trying to explain something:

I’m just going to leave the GIF here to take care of this one.

The truth:

Yes, let’s face it — we all love each other anyway. The difficult and stressful times with them are what make life funny, out of the ordinary and all-around great. If you want to compare sibling relationships to Squidward and SpongeBob, this is the one to use.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
