Shreveport is somewhat of a hidden treasure. Most people refer to it as “ratchet city”, but to me it is a pretty amazing place to live! I have lived in Shreveport my entire life. There were a few times when I hated it. It was too boring, not big enough, not a single place to go that was different. Well, I've come to find out that I just had no idea where to look. How could I have lived here so long and not known about these? Who knows so here is a list of treasures you can only find in Shreveport.
1. If you want some of the best Mexican food, head over to Ki Mexico.
Ki Mexico isn’t your average Shreveport Mexican (no tex-mex here.) If you only go to Mexican restaurants for the free chips and salsa this is not your place. Their tacos are to die for and the atmosphere is nice, there is live music on the weekends, which is fun, it also is a great fit for a lunch or mid week dinner!
2. If you are more for the free chips and salsa option, Superior Bar and Grill is your place.
Superior is famous around these parts. There's live music all the time and a great atmosphere! Most people know the wait staff on a first name basis because of how often they dine there. You simply cannot deny that a superior margarita is the best in town. One will completely knock you on your rear, but it sure is good going down!
3. Looking for a taste of Louisiana? Marilynn’s Place is definitely it.
Marilynn’s place is a new Orleans style restaurant with the best of Louisiana’s food. Po-Boys, oh Boy, They are huge and loaded! I have never had a bigger po-boy. They are also fantastic for brunch, can I say shrimp and grits? Oh yeah! They also host a wide variety of events as well as being the loading and party zone for the highland parade!
4. River City Grille is the place to go for a great fun evening with your friends!
Here is a place that is fun and always has a great atmosphere. The patio is amazing, live music, crawfish on the weekends, what more could you ask for? RCG is a fun place built specifically where friends can come together and enjoy local entertainment and great food!
5. Love breakfast food? Strawn's is definitely the best place for that!
Strawn's has a few locations around Shreveport and Bossier City. It is a diner-type restaurant that serves breakfast all day as well as daily lunch plates. You will never leave hungry! Strawn's is also hands down best place for a hangover too!
6. Rollin’ In The Dough is also a great local diner.
Rollin’ in the Dough has the absolute best bread on the planet. It is freshly made every day. The sandwiches are to die for and huge! They also have some of the best catfish and burgers! It has a very family friendly atmosphere, the perfect spot for lunch. One, two or three times a week, I’ve done it, no shame!
7. If you are into burgers? Two words: Fully Stacked!
Fully Stacked is located in the Shreveport entertainment district under the Texas Street Bridge. It has a very lively atmosphere. The burgers are nothing less than “fully stacked”. Once evening comes around there is live music under the bridge with tables on the patio. It’s a perfect evening out with friends!
8. Not your average hole in the wall Herby K’s.
Herby K’s has been around for a long, long time! It’s most famous dish is the shrimp buster! Herby K’s has a few inside dining tables, set up like a small diner. They also have a patio with a few picnic tables. This would be my seafood place of choice — fried seafood, that is.
9. Need a good burger for lunch? The Cub is definitely it.
The Cub has also been around forever. Most people my age know it for being the starting point to every night out. They don’t even know about burger day! Lunch burgers at The Cub are mouthwateringly amazing. There is never an empty parking spot when The Cub is having burger day! They also have other amazing food, you can’t go wrong with their steak, but the au gratin potatoes take the gold.
10. The best steak in town. Literally. The best is at Anthony's Steak and Seafood.
Anthony’s Steak and Seafood is definitely a hidden treasure. Way off on Mansfield Road you'll find not so much of a steakhouse-looking joint. When you walk in it is tiny. They have a small dining area for parties and tastings. The main dining area has a nice salad bar and a few intimately set tables and booths. This place is definitely a must go for a special anniversary. The steak is the best I’ve ever had! Also, there is some sort of crab on basically everything. Crab au gratin, oh yeah, best appetizer hands down! Order the fresh fish of the day and hope its salmon because their salmon topped with sweet crab and Anthony’s sauce is probably the best thing on the menu!
