Shows To Watch (And Rewatch) This Summer

With the heat outside surpassing the 100 degree mark and our college student pockets empty, it may be a good idea to start binge watching a show. Throughout my high school and college years of watching shows to procrastinate from studying and homework, I have watched my fair share of shows, some better than others. With Netflix and Hulu, it is now easier than ever to binge watch an entire season of a show in our air conditioned homes. Below are some of my favorite shows that I totally recommend you watch (or rewatch) this summer:

"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

This show is relatively new and it is a Netflix original. When I read the description on Netflix, I knew I would love it! There are only two seasons out, but more seasons are planned. Basically, it is a show about a young woman who has spent most of her life in a bunker with a crazy man who convinced her that it was the end of the world, and it follows her adventures as she learns about the modern and adult world.

"How I Met Your Mother"

A classic! If you have not yet watched HIMYM, please do! This follows a group of friends and their normal adult lives, but the great part is that we know that the show will end in Ted meeting his wife, we just don’t know who she is or where he meets her.

"Parks and Recreation"

Starring Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, and many other great comedic geniuses, this show follows Leslie Knope and her love for government work (specifically, the parks department). She is a great female role model and loves breakfast foods. What else is there to know?

"Drop Dead Diva"

Yes, it’s a lawyer show. But it is not at all what you would expect from one. This is the story of two women who are completely opposites and somehow the soul of a ditzy model ends up in Jane Bingum’s, a successful attorney, body. Yes, it is as interesting and funny as it sounds.

"That 70’s Show"

Another classic, please watch it if you haven’t! This is basically the beginning of Ashton Kutcher (Michael) and Mila Kunis' (Jackie) real life love. It follows a diverse group of high school friends in 70’s Wisconsin and it is oddly relatable.

"Jane the Virgin"

I recently started this show because I admire Gina Rodriguez and her love for her culture. Honestly, I never thought much of it, but it is so good! It is based on a Venezuelan telenovela about a young responsible woman (who intends on being a virgin until marriage) who gets artificially inseminated and ends up pregnant with a rich (and very dramatic) man’s baby. It is something you have to see to believe (and yes, it has all the drama of a novela).

" The Office"

My all time favorite show! If you like dry, sarcastic humour, you cannot live life without watching The Office. This documentary-style show about a paper company has the funniest and most interesting characters. It involves office romances, office drama, and of course, a dislike of their boss, Michael Scott.

" Scandal"

This show is exactly what the title says: a scandal. Warning: it is a political/lawyer/government show, but it is anything but boring. Not only do they incorporate relevant events, such as the political campaign and other presidential scandals, but Olivia Pope is actual goals (sometimes).

"Friends"

I’ll be there for youuuu, because you’re there for me tooo. If you don’t know the entire theme song from "Friends," go watch it again and again! This show is so iconic you probably already know the general summary of it. If by this point you are not familiar with Rachel, Ross, Chandler, Joey, Monica and Phoebe, please take time to watch this show! After all, we are on a break!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
