Don’t get me wrong, telling your significant other that you love them is just as equally important, but if there are no actions to go with the words then the words themselves start to mean nothing. Let that person know how much you care and show them that they are one of your top priorities.
Showing love doesn’t mean that you have to go out and spend a fortune on them for new flowers or a stuffed animal. It simply means your time and affection. A hug and kiss to begin and end the day, or a little message in place of that if there is distance. I say little because it shouldn’t be a four page text proclaiming your love to make the other person believe that you love them, but rather a simple “Good morning, beautiful/gorgeous/handsome.” Get the jist? If you must bring flowers, save money and pick them out of a field, they’re just as beautiful.
Showing someone that you love them can go a long way in a relationship, and can help the relationship that you care about last longer. Here are nine more ways to show that you love someone.
1. Be there when they need you.
Whether it’s a shoulder to cry on or someone to celebrate their great news with, be there. Being there for each other is a key component to make any relationship work.
2. Be supportive.
Support their dreams and don’t talk negative about them no matter how far off they may seem. Everyone has the right to dream, and if you’re really important to the person then your thoughts on it determine if it lasts or not.
3. Get to know their family and friends.
Family and friends are an important aspect to your significant other's life, just like they are in yours. Getting to know theirs will mean more to them than you will ever know, just like if the other person got to know yours for you.
4. Show interest in their opinion.
Your opinion isn’t the only one that matters.
5. Fully listen to them.
Listen to them when they talk about their work day, when they talk about their trip to the store, when they tell you stories of their childhood; just listen.
6. Randomly surprise them.
This goes hand in hand with listening. You’ll learn more about someone than you’d expect to through listening to them, and when they’re down (or having a great day) you can randomly surprise them with their favorite song, their favorite candy bar, their favorite anything.
7. Always be honest.
This is self-explanatory. Honesty is the best policy!
8. Accept them for them.
If you truly love someone you will accept all of their flaws that you see, and eventually come to love them. Don’t neg on the other person about them in the meantime.
9. Make small gestures.
Open doors, carry a box, give a hug or a kiss, hold their hand while walking through unsteady ground, let them walk on the inside of the street or sidewalk.
….Actions speak louder than words.
