I don't get non-affectionate couples. I said it. I feel like I'm one of the only people who will grab their boyfriend and give them a huge kiss in front of a big crowd. I'm not gonna over-do it like one of those seventh grade couples who makes everyone uncomfortable...but hey, why not show off your love?
That's the biggest take away from why I'm writing this. Show off your love for one another. You're in love and should want to be affectionate towards your partner all the time! Just because you go out in front of people doesn't mean you have to hide it? If you're truly in love, you won't ever be embarrassed to show off your person. A smack on the butt, holding hands, kissing is no big deal.
When people say, "ew gross, too much PDA", a part of me dies a little. So you won't let your boyfriend touch you in public but you'll expect him to text you long paragraphs to put up on your Twitter? Oh and how dare he rub your shoulders in front of some strangers, cause they might vomit or something. You just worked twelve hours at the hospital and need some lovin' but am afraid what people might think.
Now-a-days we are taught that touching your partner in public is almost sort of a taboo thing. That it makes you guys seem immature and goofy. In my opinion, I think it makes you look super mature. Your testing boundaries, limiting self control, putting yourself out there...all while doing it with the person you care about most.
I've seen articles stating that couples who show public affection actually are happier with their relationships more than with the people who don't show PDA. I wonder if this is because as humans we crave affection. We want that pat on the shoulder, or to have that kiss on the cheek. We crave human touch. It's so important to touch the other person in your relationship so they get that comfort.
So please don't bash on people who are showing their affection in public. If it makes you uncomfortable, remove yourself from the situation. If not, give that couple a round of applause in your head and maybe learn something. Watching others can reduce your social anxiety and maybe you and your partner can show a little PDA too. :)
