A Shout Out To The Working Students

It's not easy to be a student in college between the expense, homework, group projects and of course the days when are multiple midterms scheduled, but something that can make college even more challenging is also working while attending school.

So this is a shout-out to the working students.

To the students who come to their 9 a.m. classes after just completing a shift, you are amazing.

To the students who find themselves behind a checkout stand until it's way past theoretical bedtime, you are appreciated.

To the students who push themselves Monday through Friday at school and then sacrifice their social life by working all weekend, you are missed.

To all students who find themselves working, you got this!

Sometimes you may feel like you are living three separate lives with only enough hours in the day for two of them. In fact, your typical day may involve attending class and then work only to come home and question how you are going to feed yourself, shower, do all your homework, prepare for the next day and somewhere along the line actually relax.

It's not always easy, and there will be sacrifices made. But you already know that.

Here's the good news: It's also going to be worth it. Working now will save stress later when it comes to paying off loans, building a resume and learning time management skills. Hopefully, you love your job and are surrounded by great co-workers. If not, hopefully that will happen for you soon. I'm grateful work at jobs I love and look forward to.

Remember to find the time to practice self-care, even if it's just in the quiet moments. Cheers to you working student, be proud of all your hard work!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
