After this election year’s Super Tuesday primaries, many Americans were caught up with the reality that Donald Trump might actually become the most powerful man in the world. Some highly doubted that he would even make it to the primaries, and some thought he was doing it for shit and giggles. But the reality that has hit us is that he is winning by a drastic measure in the Republican primaries, and that we, as Americans, have to take this seriously. No longer can we cast a shadow of doubt that this is just a prank. The poll numbers in the past were all false data. Trump is making progress, and he is making progress fast.
The question on everybody’s mind, and also in my mind for a while is, why? Why in the name of all things moral and right does anybody want to vote for this guy? I mean, this guy is the definition of toxic. He wants to build a wall that will not allow Mexican immigrants into the United States while calling all of them derogatory terms such as, rapists, criminals and drug dealers and also proposing a plan to “temporarily” ban all Muslims from entering the United States. How could one man, who proposes these almost impossible, and horrific ideas, be the front runner of the Republican primaries?
Now, most people might answer the question by blaming Republican voters, calling them ignorant, stupid or idiotic. To me, labeling these people as such is pitiful and disrespectful to many people who actually do go out and vote. So, instead of blaming these people, let us see what is so appealing about this Donald Trump guy.
The first good quality I would note is that he is a business man. For years, he has known how to run businesses and sell his product. The presidential race is no different than for him than running a business. He has a product to sell, and he wants to convince thousands of people to buy it. The way he does this is by appearing on television as much as he is able to. Think of this like being in a commercial. Donald Trump wants to be on as much as he can, selling his product in the most bizarre way possible. He does this by holding many rallies and events. At these events, he says some pretty nasty stuff, such as racist terms, vulgar language and showing violence to anyone who opposes him. This gives him a lot of attention, which then results him in selling his product to Americans that like these kinds of people.
At this point in time, Donald Trump seems to realize that many Americans do not go out and vote because these voters do not seem to care about the elections because they do not know who to vote for. So, in result, Trump is trying to dumb down politics by saying, "Yeah, I’m the man who’ll get things done, because I’m a lean, mean, political fighting machine that stands to no one and goes by my own rules." This seems to appeal to many Americans who think that politics are complicated and only meant for those that know a few things about politics.
Second quality I wanted to note is that Trump is quite the funny guy. I have to admit, while watching some of these videos, I cracked up at one or two of his jokes. The man does have a sense of humor, and that I believe is what makes him so appealing. The more he tells these jokes, the more he seems like the cool funny guy, making people viewing him as more of a friend figure. While he is building this friendly figure, the more loyal his supporters are becoming. Donald Trump also uses this appealing and friendly vocabulary that allows people to follow him easily, apart from politicians in the past, in which they would use political jargon to convince people, making it harder to sort of understand what they are saying, and kind-of distances voters from the person that is running. By using this dumb-downed vocabulary, Donald Trump allows his supporters to really connect and feel to what he is saying, making it easier to understand what Trump is running for.
The last quality that I would like to mention is that Donald Trump seems to be a father figure for America. At this time and age, Americans are feeling insecure and threatened due to certain circumstances. Donald Trump answers these insecurities with blaming people. Many people have asked the question of why are there so many Mexicans in the United States. "Well, they are here because the Mexican government sends their unwanted up to America, and with them comes crime, drugs, and rapists." He answers the question of why does the United States get attacked by radical Muslims by saying, "Well, we let them in, so we have to keep them out."
This can be compared to a child asking his or her father where do babies come from. Normally, unless you are quite the adventurous parent, the father answers the question without bringing up the subject of sex, with something that the child would most likely believe since the child can not come up with an answer by observation. The same occurs here; a person asks the question to something that is not obvious, and Donald Trump answers with something that seems like it is the most obvious answer. Since Donald Trump seems like the guy with all the answers, it would be natural for people to side with him.
Now, another question that seems to be brought up with this is, how are Republican voters so gullible? Why do they just accept this as fact and roll with it? Well, dear reader, if we look at the poll down below, we can observe that people who are most favorable to Donald Trump are voters who do not have a high school degree and people who have some sort of college experience. So, from this we can conclude that people who do not have much of a college degree are Trump supporters, while those who are opposed to Trump have more of a college education. Now, from this we must also consider that only 30 percent of the American population have a college education, while the rest do not. So, there are more people in the United States who do not have a college education, and more likely to vote for Trump than those that do have a college education.
Now that we have analyzed together why Donald Trump seems to be popular and looked at some data, I hope you can see that Donald Trump is not a joke. People like him because of his personality and are willing to be loyal to him, no matter what he does. And now that you have seen all the qualities of the Republican front-runner, are you ready to vote for Trump?
