Why We Should Start Dressing Like It's The Early 2000s

I don't think there has ever been a more fashionable era.

Fashion is hard.

I’m serious, bear with me here. I know that I’m a female and am supposed to have been born with some magical gene that allows me to create adorable ensembles and look somewhat presentable all the time but, unfortunately, mine must have a defect. Matching clothes and finding outfits that are perfect for each occasion honestly gives me a headache, and nine times out of 10 I’ll opt for sneakers, a t-shirt, and bottoms that have a great deal of stretch to them.

I truly admire people, both male and female, who find the energy to look fashionable constantly. I often wish that it would come easy to me, but if I'm being honest, when it comes down to it, I deeply, truly do not care about what I'm putting on my body. I just want getting dressed to be quick, comfortable, and to take as little brain power as possible. That brings me to the styles of the early 2000s. It was an era of, from what I can remember and tell from photographs, people literally not giving a flying fish about what they wore. Red carpets were filled with dresses over jeans, entire denim outfits, and a boat load of fur, so I can only imagine what us regular people were clothing ourselves in. It seemed as though you could throw on whatever random items were lying on your bedroom floor and call it fashion. So here are the reasons we should get back to that:

1. With minimal clothing comes minimal time and effort! Paris was really ahead of her time here, and that thong strap? Both functional AND a great accessory!

2. Bad hair day? Two words, honey. Trucker. Hat.

3. Matching is so much easier when you have your significant other to help you out! It's no surprise that the Beckhams know all about teamwork.

4. Wow. I feel comfy just looking at the oversized sweatshirt. Or rain jacket? Whatever it is, it's function and fashion at its finest. Bonus points for those killer hoops, JT.

5. Where do I begin with this one? Feel like wearing jeans but want to show off your new dress? GIRL, just wear both! The people will love it!

6. A shirt with a message. Paris was worried about the real issues, people. Gosh, what a gem.

7. Honestly, if you're not wearing flare jeans, a fat belt, and a choker, you're doing it wrong. Has Hilary ever failed us? Also, if you don't have a logos protecting your head you MUST be a peasant.

8. For the young, business professional: cut down your morning routine by simply throwing a tie around your neck! Strut the office in style.

9. Comfortable, colorful, AND they make your butt look great. It's no surprise these babies are about to make a comeback.

10. Shave minutes off of your beauty routine by simply swiping your eyebrows on in one, quick stroke! Brows on fleek, Drew.

11. Sleep in braids. Wake up with gorgeous locks. Yeah, they sell tools to crimp, but why waste your money? Saving time and dollars!

12. Speaks for itself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
