Why You Should Absolutely Get A Dog In College
Corey Lee

Dogs are man's best friend; they love you no matter what you do, or who you are. In college, you're usually on your own trying to be independent from your parents. That's scary all on its own. Having to fend for yourself is tough, and you quickly find out that pizza every night is not a good idea. Adopting a dog gives you responsibility in the college life that is full of bar hopping and parties.

Adopting is an act of love. The dogs at the shelter are just like every other dog in the world, except they don't have a home. I adopted my dog from a shelter, and I found out that she loved me no matter what I did; I found myself being more and more responsible in life. I started to do better on my homework, and get more exercise (which is good after all that pizza), all because of this little dog in my life. Dog training is hard -- my dog chewed a hole in one of my favorite shoes -- but the end result is worth it. A dog will love you every day, and will be excited to see you.

Dogs have a personality all their own, and trust me, my dog had a big one when I got her. There is nothing more rewarding than teaching your dog tricks and good behavior (Well, maybe getting an A on that exam you pulled an all-nighter for.) My dog needed me to take care of her, and that gave me a responsibility bigger than myself. She needed food, water, shots and a bed to sleep on. All this stuff is expensive, so that made me budget my money, and learn to be responsible with it.

My dog's name is Annabelle, and she's a little over one year old now. I got her when she was about four or five months old, weighing 14 pounds (She's now over 60 pounds, and I did not see that coming.) Annabelle thinks she's a lap dog, and will whine if you don't let her sit in your lap. That's the thing with dogs -- they will whine if they don't get their way, much like a baby will. I guess that's why we call them fur babies. You care for this dog as if it is your own child, and in some ways they are. I let my best friend take care of my dog one weekend, and I would call to check in every hour or so. That night I got a call saying my dog was throwing up everywhere, and I was freaking out because I did not know what to do -- much like a new parent would do.

Go to your local shelter, look at the dogs, or cats if you're a cat person, and find the one who you believe to have always been your dog and you were meant to adopt. Remember, if you give a dog your heart, he will give you his in return.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
