Why You Should Always Listen To Your Mother

She really does know best.

Why You Should Always Listen To Your Mother
Anna Ellis

One thing that I have learned in my short little lifetime is that Mother ALWAYS knows best. It may not seem like it at the time, but they have this crazy sixth sense. If they give you advice on something, there is a good chance that they are probably right. So, after learning the hard way on too many occasions, I am here to say that you should always listen to what your momma has to say.

There have been way too many "I told you so" moments to count. Times where she gave me advice that I did not take or told me something I should do and I chose not to. Let's put it this way: This woman is the person that carried you around for nine months and they went through the excruciating pain of getting you out of there. Therefore, you'd have to be a little bit important to her for her to justify going through all of that. Even in situations of adoption, you were handpicked by your mother and she definitely wants what is best for you. Despite how it feels sometimes, she is not there to sabotage you and ruin your life. Nine times out of 10, she is probably giving you advice that is going to be what is best for you.

This honestly can apply to anything. If you are starting to date someone and she really doesn't like it, there's a good chance it's going to end badly. If you make a new friend and she claims she is getting bad vibes, you will probably end up hurt. If she tells you to clean your room to make you feel better, it probably will — even though that is the last thing on earth you want to do at the moment. All of those things I have personally experienced, but it can go on and on. Mothers have an insane protection mechanism towards their kids. They often know what is best for them way before their child does. This stems from momma-instinct and all of the love that they have for their kids.

Your mom really loves you. She wants you to be happy and full of life. So even when it may seem stupid or annoying, listen to what she says.

Another important thing to remember is that your relationship with your mother is priceless. Nothing in this world should get in between that. Not a boy, not a friend, not an argument or disagreement. Once you lose that relationship, you are going to feel it. You are going to miss having someone who cared enough to tell you the hard stuff that you didn't want to hear. It's another great thing about your mom — she will always be honest in the kindest way possible.

The final reason that you should listen to your mother is for your future children. Your momma is growing you to be an adult one day and go out into the world. Take all of the advice and loving gestures that your mom has given you and apply them to your future. You will most likely have a child of your own one day and YOU will be the one that "knows best." You will understand the motherly instinct. You can call upon all of the things YOUR mother taught you and apply it to your little ones. Then finally, after years of rebellion and arguing, you will fully understand why you should have listened to your mother.

Thanks for everything, Mom.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
