At a shocking 4 foot 11 and 3/4 inches (yes, I need to include the 3/4 inches) and 18 years old, I am the shortest member of my family, and of all my friends. Being short has its upsides; my mom always told me that guys like short girls, and tall people always tell me that I'm lucky that I can wear heels and not be self-conscious about my height. However, short people face a lot of problems, and I'm here to bring light to them.
1. People know you as the "short friend."
The one on the right? That's me next to literally everyone.
2. You have to climb counters to reach the top shelves (or even the middle shelves).
This is me whenever I need to get something from one of the higher shelves. Every. Single. Time.
3. When you have to write on the whiteboard in class, your writing is always really low.
This kid reaching for the eraser? That's me.
4. When you want to kiss someone spontaneously but you're not able to reach their lips.
This picture may be cute, but having to stand on your toes to kiss or hug anyone gets exhausting.
5. Your jeans and leggings bunch up at the bottom.
This is me every morning when I put on jeans or leggings
6. Tall people bend their knees to talk with you.
Please don't bend down to talk to me. I am not a child.
7. People think you're younger than you actually are because of your height.
Bruno Mars looks younger than Taylor Swift in this picture because he's shorter, when in reality, he is four years older than she is. Short people deal with this problem all the time.
8. You have a hard time keeping up with your tall friends when you're walking together.
I constantly have to tell my taller friends to walk slower because my short legs can't keep up with their long strides.
9. People use your head as an armrest.
This happens so much more often than I would like it to.
10. You're not able to stand in the deep end of the pool.
This seal is me.
I'll conclude this article with one final thought I have when tall people tell me I'm short:
