Moms Are Only Human

But to me, mine is so much more.

Moms Are Only Human
Kacie Lynch

Although this letter contains nothing that hasn’t been said before, I think it is important to remember how wonderful our mothers are, to take a moment and remember that our moms are only human, even though they often seem capable of so much more.

This past weekend my mom visited me at school. I had literally been counting down the weeks since we found out about this event. My mom is my best friend, even though our personalities starkly contrast I am truly thankful for her each and every day. I didn’t realize how amazing she was until I didn’t get the chance to see her every day.

Before coming to college I took for granted all that she did for my siblings and I. I often times criticized her and her way. I did not understand how we could be so incredibly different, yet so incredibly alike. I never understood we she could not possess the same obsessive work ethic as I, and she never understood why I could not be more easy going.

I never truly realized how selfless my mother is. I never realized that although she might seem like supermom and like she has everything under control all the time, underneath it all, she is just a person. She gets tired too, she doesn’t want to clean the house either or get up at 6 a.m. to get my sister ready and take her to school. I never realized that my mom, no matter how truly great she is, has struggled and sometimes lacks motivation. I never realized that she is just a human that is doing the best she can. It never occurred to me that my mom doesn’t know all the answers and that there isn’t really a right answer for anything, nor does she know how to handle every situation life throws at her. She has always done such a wonderful job at handling our crazy family. I never understood how hard that job must be.

To my mom, who is only human but does a far better job handling everything life throws at her than I ever could, you are my idol, my inspiration and my true best friend. Thank you for…

1. Giving birth to me and loving me like no one ever will.

2. Thank you for not always telling me what to do but making me figure it out myself.

3. For being the most selfless and thoughtful person I have ever met; I strive to possess those characteristics.

4. For teaching me that you can’t always learn from other people’s mistakes, you have to make your own.

5. Teaching me that you only get what you give.

6. Reminding me to never settle, in life or love.

7. For always pushing me to do better, but always reminding me that I am good enough.

8. For never telling me that a boy would be my happily ever after, I will decide my own happily ever after.

9. For telling me when I am wrong, even if it hurts.

10. For helping me to see the good in each and every person I meet.

11. And for reminding me that everyone is dealing with something, even if they won’t admit it.

12. For reminding me to not ever let any opportunities pass you by, even if you are scared. Seize every opportunity and make the best of every opportunity, it is probably temporary anyway.

13. For giving me everything and asking for nothing in return.

14. Thank you for reminding me that at the end of the day we are all only human. We cannot do it all. We can simply do the best we can. And that is enough.

Thanks for being my mom and for being such an incredible human, one that I hope I can be just like. Thank you for doing the best you could under the impossible circumstances you faced. I’m so thankful that your best has always been more than enough.

Love,

Your Infinitely Grateful Daughter

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
