"Sex and the City" took the ideal New York City setup -- complete with the perfect friendship, job, relationships and Manolo Blahniks -- and displayed it on a network for the world to see. It ignited every girl with this dangerous yet sophisticated feeling as she watched Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda discuss their tumultuous sex lives over a snappy casual brunch. I think most people can admit to living vicariously through each of the four women, and we all can concede that we learned something along the way. The characters, while continuously coming in and out of relationships, had some important things to say about being single. If you are also still out there searching for your Mr. Big, here are some quotes from the girls to help you along the way.
1. "And then I realized something, twenty-something girls are just fabulous, until you see one with the man who broke your heart."
For when you're recovering from a breakup a little slower than your counterpart.
2. "The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun."
Living the single life can have its low points, so always treat yourself.
3. "Oh please, there's always a competition with an ex, its called 'who'll die miserable?'"
Even Samantha knows that single life has its challenges.
4. "Maybe we can be each other’s soul mates. And then we can let men be just these great, nice guys to have fun with."
This was Charlotte's single greatest idea of all six seasons.
5. "The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous."
I think this is what everyone is really searching for, so leave it to Carrie to put it so eloquently into words.
6. "If you are single there is always one thing you should take out with you on a Saturday night... your friends."
This is the most important rule that Carrie has taught us.
7. "Some people are settling down, some people are settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies."
It's tough sometimes, but it's always better to be the third type of person.
8. "To be in a couple, do you have to put your single self on a shelf?"
Because being single forces us to be independent and true to ourselves, and we should never lose sight of that.
9. "Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you’re pretty sexy and you’re taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with."
Amen sister!
