Valentines Day is fast approaching, and for some this is one of the best holidays of the year. For me, it is not. Below, please enjoy the seven stages of grief that some people experience during the misery that is Valentines Day.
Stage One: Disbelief- The day before Valentines Day you may be asking yourself how the holiday snuck up so quickly. It seemed like just yesterday you had to stress over finding a New Years Eve kiss, and now you have to deal with a whole day dedicated to couples.
Stage Two: Denial- No, no way! If you just to go bed now you can completely skip the holiday! You plan to set your alarm for April Fools Day, the one day you can pull pranks on all of your annoying coupled up friends without being accused of being the petty person you know deep down that you are.
Stage Three: Bargaining- Perhaps it is not too late. You start to call your friends, promising them that you will do their homework for a month, if they can just hook you up with one of their cute guy friends. You even consider calling your mom, she said her friends son went to your school and was handsome and single! But right before you press the call button you put down the phone and walk away. After all, you're not that desperate...yet.
Stage Four: Guilt- Why, oh why did you break up with your boyfriend last November? Sure, he wasn't that tall, didn't have the best manners, and never picked up the check, but you are starting to believe that having someone is better than being single. As you listen to Adele's Hello on your record player in the dark, you start to wonder if any of your ex's will be thinking about you this Valentine's Day.
Stage Five: Anger- You know you are good girlfriend material! Why then can no guys pick up on this? During this stage of grief you prefer to wear all black and listen to punk rock music. After all, even though some may call you a bit dramatic, you still believe that no one can understand the blackness that is your soul.
Stage Six: Depression- Maybe it's time to throw in the towel. After all if you haven't found your soulmate at twenty, are you really destined to have one? You ponder all of your life choices while eating way too much chocolate and sobbing over The Bachelor.
Stage Seven: Acceptance- You finally realize how dramatic you were being, and that not having a S.O. on Valentines Day is not the end of the world. You realize that Valentines Day is a day to be spent with the people you love, whether that be your friends, family, or some much required R&R for yourself. Keep your chin up,and remember the next day is half off all Valentines themed chocolate and candy at the store!
