Seven Risks Everyone Should Take

Risk taking is hard plain and simple. We all have the fear of failing. At the end of the day we will only regret the chances we didn't take as cliche as that sounds.

What if we started living for ourselves? "Let me do me" can come off selfish, but you're saying "let me take my own risks." We should all be risk takers, after all 100 likes on an Instagram doesn't just happen for sitting on your couch all day!

Here's a list of some risks everyone should take for themselves:

1. Go shopping and buy something you didn't think you could pull off.

Maybe we aren't all trend setters, but we can try can't we? Make a bold statement for yourself and buy that different color dress you never wear or that boho chic top! Try something new on for a change!

2. Give your number to the guy who asked for it.

Let's face it we don't know where we'll find prince charming or Mr. Right, but if we said no at every chance we never will. You're not saying you would marry the guy if you give him your number, but you're saying you have an open mind. (Even if you did meet over Tinder) This doesn't mean your desperate, it means you live for experiences and for yourself.

3. Make your own work life balance.

We're always going to have a paper due the next day or a huge test to cram for, but don't forget to have fun too. We're always looking for a work life balance, but the truth is work will never stop, but that doesn't mean your life should. Take time to make it to happy hour or go to that mixer!

4. Explore new places to eat something new.

It's hard to say no to chipotle when somehow you can never go wrong with a bowl of your choice, but it's also basic. Try that new place on your main street or place you never have gone before! Try something new from the menu or for the very least choose barbacoa over chicken at Chipotle.

5. Take some personal days.

It's hard to not constantly do things with our friends, but remember we all need our own sanity too. Take the time to go for a run on your own, watch a movie by yourself, or eat alone. Don't feel the need to catch everyone up over your group text, spend some time for yourself and embrace it.

6. Pay for those once in a lifetime experiences.

So maybe money doesn't actually grow on trees, but it is important to splurge on EXPERIENCES. Don't go to Starbucks for a solid 2 weeks and save up money for those tickets you really wanted or that vacation with your friends you want to take. Pay for the story you get out of it!

7. Try a different social scene.

You don't have to be outgoing to meet new people, but you have to be a risk taker. Go to that frat you've never been to before, a pre game with a different group of people, or that bar you haven't tried yet. The truth is everyone wants to have fun!

Whether the risks work out or not, it'll be an experience to learn from, a challenge we overcame, or a story to tell. So next time you need a reason to take a risk remember, “let me do me."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
