Scrolling my Facebook news feed before I went to bed last night, I saw so many photos. Some speaking of silence for the almost two hours between the time the first plane hit, to the last building falling. Others, describing family members realizing their loved one's would not be coming home. Then, there was this post.
As we recount the tragedy that occurred on this day (now), 14 years ago, we all have different stories. Mine took place as I sat in my first grade classroom with the image of the Towers being struck and my mom crying, playing over and over again in my head. I remember my teacher saying, "this is a day that will change the course of history." That was a quote I will never forget, because each year as we relive this catastrophic day it seems to only ring truer. Although our stories may be different we can all relate to this idea, "one never knows what a new day has in store."
They say Sept. 11 is the safest days of any to fly. I am flying on an airplane today. It seems cowardly, because I know their will be so many precautions, but I can't help but be fearful. It's not just my safety that bothers me. I am filled with emotion thinking of this post. Of these words. Of the millions of people whose lives are affected everyday by what happened on Sept. 11. After all of the brave efforts and contingencies, it doesn't seem fair to be frozen in fear. Regardless of life's unknown, we must maintain our faith and remain as positive as we can be. I urge you to do just as this post suggests. Because everyday is a blessing, and we do not know what tomorrow will bring. Keep your loved one's near, forgive those who've hurt you, and be thankful for this life.
