Sensing some positive vibes

Using all five of your senses to find something positive

Sensing some positive vibes

This week has been a pretty rough week for me. Work has been killing me. Having 23 clients on your caseload will do that to you. I like the busy-ness, but sometimes it gets to be too much. That’s the kind of week I had. So, instead of writing about all the things that sucked this week (and also I can’t because mostly it’s about clients and that would be violating HIPPA,) I’m going to write about some positive things. I listen to a podcast with Alexis G Zall. She interviews people, and it’s super cute because she’s actually quite a young Youtuber. But at the end of her podcast, she plays this game with all of her guests, and I find it quite interesting. While I’m listening in the car, I’ll usually play along too. I can’t remember exactly what she calls it, but what you do is you have to name your favorite thing you’ve done with all five of your senses (taste, smell, sight, heard, felt.) I’ve decided to reflect on the positive things that I’ve done this week and not the negative. So here we go.

Sight:

I think the most favorite thing I’ve seen this week is just having my daily routine of kicking back after work and watching everything in my DVR, particularly Chain Reaction. It’s this game on the Game Show Network. I record it every day, and then I usually get to watch it. It’s a show where there’s a word like ball and then you would find a word to connect to it like game, and then game would connect to time. It does give my brain a workout, but also some of the people on there are SO dumb. The fact that I’m telling you about this just proves I’m a grandma trapped in a 26-year-old body.

Hearing:

There have been a lot of good things I’ve heard this week. There was this amazing song I heard on my Discover Weekly playlist. It’s called “Empty Note” by Ghostly Kisses. It’s the atmospheric song where the vocals are haunting and the music is relaxing, I could listen over and over again. I just love that kind of music in general. I’ve been on a kick of it lately.

Smell:

Now this is hard for some reason, it took me a while to come up with this one. The best thing I’ve smelled this week was the week old roses in my office that I got from Craig for Valentine’s Day. Today, I was just really stressed out and wanted to be alone to work on treatment plans without being disturbed, so I shut my door. Then the overwhelming smell came and I wondered what it was. I looked over and knew it was the roses. It’s just a little reminder that I’ll be okay and that Craig does love me. Sappy I know.

Taste:

This is another hard thing too because I really don’t consider the things I eat to really taste them. But my dad made these deep fried crescent rolls with pepperoni in them. They were so good! He also made jalapeno poppers. If I was listing out the worst things I smelled, it’s probably those. Dad doesn’t cook often, but when he does, it’s usually spot on and knows what he’s doing. So go Dad!

Touch:

Now this one can go a few different ways. Alexis uses this as either physically felt or it can be emotional. I’m going to do both. An old college buddy of mine called me out of the blue for advice this week. It made me feel so good that he still relies on me for advice and still calls me even after all these years. We haven’t seen each other for probably five or six years. Favorite physical thing that I have touched probably is my cat at home, Izzy. She usually knows when I’m having it rough and likes to cuddle at night. It’s cool that animals can sense their humans and their feelings.

Feel free to let me know of what the best things you’ve used your senses for.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
