Senior Year, I Promise You This

#TigerUp: The Final Installment

3
Senior Year, I Promise You This
Blake Nelson

It seems like just yesterday I was moving all of my bags and boxes into Firestine 209 and taking that long walk down to Commencement Hollow, and now I'm preparing again to make that commencement walk. I started my journey as a Tiger three years ago to the sound of Meyers Bell ringing, and I promise to make every second count before I hear it ring again in May.

I promise to enjoy every step on my walks to class and practice, knowing that no other time in my life will I have this many friends living in one community with me.

I promise to leave the door to Hollenbeck and the student center open for anyone in sight, as is the Wittenberg way.

I promise to #WittWednesday with the same zeal that I did freshman year.

I promise to take way too many pictures of Meyers Hall and the seal.

I promise to pet every stray cat and 4-Paws dog I see.

I promise to study in the hollow on nice days, and run through it on nice nights ;).

I promise to always take a break for mot sticks in my library late nights.

I promise to try to have patience when there is nothing but bagpipes blasting from the stadium during Wooster week.

I promise to always roll my eyes and scowl when someone even mentions Wooster.

I promise to cherish every team tradition in which I get to take part for one final year.

I promise to value every chapter meeting and sorority event, knowing they are almost my last.

I promise to revel in the stress of every day over involvement in Wittenberg.

I promise to eat CBR pizza every chance I get.

I promise to fish bowl and Mc's, and day drink at Station.

I promise to paint up for Code Red games, and cheer like my life depends on it.

I promise to watch the sunrise on Meyers steps with my roommates after pulling an all nighter

I promise to be proud of all that I have accomplished when I finally get to Stomp the Seal

I promise to pass on my light.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
