There are many times when I am reminded that I should have been born in the 20th century. Scratch that, I should have lived in the 20th century. Call me old-fashioned, but I think that our grandparents and even parents had it right when it comes to living life. Things were much simpler back then and I think society was actually at a greater level of civility. I want to take you back in time and help you recall, or introduce you to, things of the past.
1. A Simple Letter

In today's society we rely on instant communication: emails, texting, FaceTime, Skype, etc. Rarely do we think to write a letter. Formal letter writing is still considered by some to be a more meaningful way to communicate. It takes time to write a letter, meaning that it also takes more thought to write a letter. Plus there is the simple point that the postal service isn't just for delivering electric bills. I think we can all agree that when we receive a card in the mail we still get excited!
2. Going on a Date

In the 21st century we consider "hanging out" a date. In fact,
dating itself has really just become chilling on the couch to watch a movie! Gone are the days where a guy asks a girl to go to dinner or see a movie
and pays for it. Of course, there are still some romantics out there, but they are few and far between. Perhaps this new form of "dating" is a convenient way to evade commitment. Perhaps this shows how lazy we have become as a society. Just a thought! I must say that today's technology has significantly eased long-distance dating. With visual communication, relationships distanced by thousands of miles can still survive.
3. Reading the Newspaper

The Internet has given us instant access to all of the world's news. It is truly an asset to today's society, but sometimes it's nice to just sit back and read the newspaper. Not only is separating yourself from the computer important every now and then, but it is also a sort of way to slow down. Reading the news forces us to take time away from our fast-paced lives and just sit still for a bit. Often the only news that is truly interesting can be found in a newspaper. Local newspapers cover stories pertinent to your location. They cover state, national, and world news. It's the perfect way to get a little bit of information on a lot of topics. Plus, one of my favorite parts of reading the newspaper is having a simple cup of
coffee!
4. Dances with Real Moves!

I am not a big dancer, at least not by today's standards. I find it awkward to go to a dance and just move thoughtlessly to the beat. It's almost cumbersome to do so. I would much rather dance to music that has specific movements! Our parents and grandparents had it right; they had dance moves that worked for any song. I'm not really sure how we got to just jumping around and shifting our weight back and forth, but I don't
care for it!
I know that I may not have the popular opinion, but I wish I'd lived in the 20th century. The men were more stylish in their dress. Actually, we are seeing some of those fashion trends appear again. Men were men—meaning they were gentlemen, they respected each other, and they meant what they said when they said it. Everyone knew that Friday night meant there was a dance at the local dance hall. There were only a few channels on the TV, and on Saturday night everyone knew that you could turn on the TV and dance the night away. The local malt shoppe was a regular stop for the town lovebirds. In general, life was simpler—and I would dare to say happier!
