The dreaded season of sickness has descended upon the masses. It’s practically impossible to walk around without seeing someone sneeze, blow their nose or sound like they’re coughing up a lung. However, there is no need to panic! I’m here to provide helpful tips on what medications to take based on your symptoms so that you’ll feel better without necessarily having to see a doctor.
If you’re feeling any type of aching in your head, ibuprofen or acetaminophen is the way to go! This will help to relieve the pressure that generally, in this case, is caused by the sinuses.
If you feel that you’re unable to breathe through your nose, then what you need is a nasal decongestant. My personal recommendation is Sudafed or the store brand, both of which need to be purchased at the pharmacy counter with a valid form of identification.
If you have any kind of cough, taking cough syrup is the best way to go about resolving the issue. Any brand will work just fine.
Throat lozenges are also a great thing to invest in. The ones I rely on the most are Halls Triple Soothing Action Ice Peppermint, which have menthol to relieve coughs and act as a soothing substance for a sore throat.
Another important thing to keep in mind when you have a cold is to drink plenty of fluids and get rest. If your body is suffering, other aspects of your life will as well.
If these symptoms persist for several days with no relief, then it would be the time to call your doctor to schedule an appointment. Other resources include the school nurse or the Health and Wellness Center at your college/university.
Hopefully, these tips will help you get back on the road to health! Knowing all of this growing up with my mom being a nurse has greatly helped me; I hope this knowledge will be able to help you as well.
Stay healthy, my friends!
