I think the best lesson anyone can learn in life is to love themselves. Be confident in oneself, know their worth and know how to not depend on someone for validation. It's too often these days I see many people around me lose sight of how wonderful they are. They choose to instead to put themselves down any chance they can get or look for love in another person. Here are some reasons as to why you should start loving yourself.
1. The one person who will always have your back at the end of the day is ultimately you.
Throughout the course of your life, relationships will come and go, sizzle and fizzle. I must have gone through more than a dozen different friend groups between elementary school and high school. That's just how life works, time marches on. The one person you can count on to always have your best interests is yourself, so be sure to give yourself a pat on the back for making it this far!
2. You are unique, so embrace it!
Don't like that birthmark on your arm? The freckles all over your face? Well, why not? Those are what make up the beauty that is you. If everyone looked the same we would not be able to appreciate the beauty in the diversity of people. You have been given one body to live your life in, so be kind to it. Work those freckles!
3. Confidence is key!
Being sure of yourself can help you out with different areas in life. Employers like people who believe in themselves and isn't afraid to take on a challenge. Professors at colleges like hearing students' opinions in class and it helps you to get noticed by the professor.
4. You don't need someone else to love you for you to love yourself.
Sure, I'll admit it. It's nice to be loved by someone and share a connection. However, too many times I see people completely rely on their significant other to make them feel good about themselves. They cling onto the love being given to them and relate that to their own self worth. Both men and women need to start separating the love they have for themselves and the love they have for their significant other.
I'm not saying that you have to jump into being completely into yourself right away. Take it day by day, little baby steps to get up there. Maybe you start each of your days by looking in the mirror and complimenting one feature about yourself, either a physical or personality characteristic. Once you start feeling yourself, a glow will shine from within you and you'll be shining all day long.
